| Did you re enroll? Why or why not? What's your verdict on its first year? |
|
Yes! We re-enrolled. Our dc learned, is clearly supported in her own learning style and needs with highly skilled and knowledgeable teachers, many interesting and supportive parents. While we dithered about it, after carefully listening to parents with children in other schools, we decided ITS was the best for dc. It's been a rough first year in some respects; much needed doing at the same time and could not be so things were a bit chaotic. Communications were inconsistent and sometimes late. However, that has lessened considerably. The staff is clearly highly motivated to create the school it says it is. Teachers are terrific. Nothing is perfect, so we don't let the (very!) good get in the way of perfection.

Yes we re-enrolled. Didn't think twice. We feel so incredibly lucky to be a part of IT. I have the opposite experience as PP. I think communication has been superb and very consistent. The only exception I can recall would be the announcent of new location being delayed after a date range was promised. The teachers really are top notch. I'm excited to see what next year will bring when we can stretch our legs with the space in addition to freedom to access amenities without having to coordinate. I am surprised that we aren't getting a nice invoice because I feel too lucky for this school to be free. I will make up for it by donating this month.
I encourage anyone to apply even after lottery, especially for K and up as the lists will move rather quickly. |
| Because of location we will not re enroll. |
| We will also be coming back and can't wait to be in the new amazing space! Our dc blossomed at ITS this past year and the teachers were amazing. Yes there were some issues with communication from the admin staff but that's to be expected from a brand new school. Overall I think the first year was amazing and we feel incredibly lucky to be part of the Inspired family! |
I could've writtten this exact post! |
| No, the new location isn't good for us and no parking would make it even more difficult. We would have preferred a less congested location with an attached park and playground area. While we like the fun of the younger grades this year, we didn't like the teacher turnover and the jury is still out on academics. |
Teacher turnover is a huge problem in charters. |
| We're re-enrolling. The new location is very good for our family and we've been very happy with ITS this year. I've struggled with the uncertainties that accompany a new charter, but in the end really believe ITS is a special place and its potential vastly outweighs the stress of it being a start up. |
| Agreed- we had to get used to hearing "we don't know yet" as an answer to a lot of questions, but the good outweighs my own anxiety. We re-enrolled, as did 100% of my son's class. |
What class are you in? |
| 100 percent? Really? Which class? We are not returning, looking for something more established, traditional. The school has promise and in a few years I expect good things. However, we are just not comfortable with our kids being pioneers. A 28 year old principal, no matter how smart just needs more experience in our view. Some people love that everyone is learning together, but it has its obvious downsides. We have a strong in boundary DCPS that we will try. |
And which class are you in? |
| Wow. Low blow. |

"A 28 year old principal, no matter how smart just needs more experience in our view."
Just FYI, I believe the Janney principal is about 33 and was in her 20s as principal there at one point. So...really? |
