Can I go Preppy? (size 14) Where would I shop?

Have any plus size Preppy looks to consider?

I'd go totally classic American(aka preppy, but not necessarily the heavy emphasis on specific brands). I think this is so much better on a plus size woman than trying to be too trendy. J Crew, LL Bean Signature, Brooks Brothers, Lacoste. Shirt dresses for spring/summer, white jeans with a lightweight cashmere or linen sweater. Boyfriend jeans with a button down shirt, light sweater or blazer and ballet flats. Really, preppy/classic American can be about how you put together basics you get anywhere as much as where you shop. I'd stick more with solid colors than prints, but it's all just personal preference. Have fun! You'll be lovely.

I'm a size 14 and I don't think anyone wants to see me in white jeans!

I'm a 14 and wearing white jeans right now.

Op it's pretty easy to put together a classic look. I shop at Talbots, Brooks Bros, vineyard vines. There is a nice shop called Irresistibles in Wildwood Center.

FYI Ina gets her perfectly tailored shirts specifically made for her by some French shirt maker... you won't find those in the Hamptons!

I see plenty of fat women dressed preppy. It's a nice look.

Likewise, I see a lot of bitches dressed super slutty. It's a terrible look.

- not a size 14, but I still think your comment is uncalled for.

lilly pulitzer sizes run quite large. the bright prints are scary @ first, but give it a try-- you might be pleasantly surprised by how flattering they can look.

I think some of the lily dresses actually run a bit small. The short ones do, at least.

In recent years lilly did a resize of their clothes. So now they run more true to size. Stuff from 4 or more years ago ran really large.

Glad to hear that - I usually wear a 6 or 8, but in the past was always a 12 in Lily. I always found them to run small.

It's not haute couture, but Lands' End has some nice pieces that skew preppy. And the prices are reasonable. Most of their items come in Misses and Women's sizing.
