Please Be Kind: 2.6 GPA

Try Muhlenberg and be prepared to explain what is going on. Great college for a kid like this.

I skipped 12 out of the 15 pages but if no one suggested a junior college (not community college) that may be a good fit. Or doing a PG year at a boarding school. Since your child has done private school it would be a good social fit and could give them the time to boost their grades and gain maturity for college.

Those SLACs that some PPs are disparaging do well with placement after graduation because they work hard at it. Otherwise they can’t attract new students.

2.6 is a B-

In private that is pretty good, 82 ish

That is mostly B’s with a C here and there.

On most scales, I believe it is a solid C (perhaps C+). B=80's, A=90's. that is the customary scale.

No.

It’s a B-

At our school it is a C on the verge of a C+.

Has anyone asked why the kid’s gpa is so low? Health issue, definance ... too busy doing ___, bullied at school ... ?

Jesus H Christ it's a B minus the world over, this has been covered many times in this thread.

This is why your kids are under too much pressure.

OP here. Bullied at first high school resulting in quite bad Freshman and Sophomore grades (school transfer as a Junior, mama was slow and should have done this sooner, but son masked the extent of the bullying) plus depression/anxiety/ADHD (newly medicated and doing better as a Senior).

SAT is great ... Not sure why you're not into CC. That would be the easiest way to address the low GPA. Either CC or go to a lower ranking college, which imo would be much worse than CC.

Do not waste your money on Highpoint. It's barely a step above Liberty.

the problem with CC is that you have to have a high GPA to make the step down worthwhile. CC with a 2.6 would compound the problem

No doubt based on your extensive experience with both on those days you are out from under your bridge.

Second community college and transfer to state school. Give your kid some room to grow up, mature and see how it goes.

Otherwise if you think your kid is mature enough and academically ready to handle college maybe try some of the schools with high acceptance rate? Your kids SAT score and EC is decent so I would say he's got a good chance, some recs:

- old dominion university
- salisbury university
- st mary's college

+1

I went to a school where I was out of my depth and worked my ass off to stay above water. My sister went to CC and went somewhat astray. It wasn’t the lack of rigor, it was the lack of aspirational peers.

Well this is proving that ED and, presumably full pay, puts UVA much more in reach than many of us considered.
