Have you considered University of Lynchburg? Certainly a beautiful campus with a nurturing environment. Unless something changed, it's a free, rolling app with guaranteed merit.

No it isn’t.

OP asked for small, nurturing colleges.

Why not? The kid has brains, he just needs another chance to get good grades. Small colleges are a good place to do that. And a lot of kids do better in college than high school because they’re more mature and have less busywork.

Have you looked at Longwood or Radford? Radford might not be as small as you want though.

Dayton
UMBC
Tennessee
Redford
Odu
Tampa
McDaniel

My nephew didn’t get in anywhere ... went to UMBC... Ivy graduate school.

Also think about a 5 year graduation plan. I did that found out years later I was dyslexic.

Because he has nut expressed any interest in living with mommy next year.

He struggles in school ... we don’t know why but that is not a reason to go to CC.

There are a ton of good reason to go to CC but OP has not given us one.

He will mature much faster away from mom and will be more motivated to stay in college when he realizes how great it is to be on his own.

Really? What is wrong with you?

Not every kid is a perfect student even with help. UGH>

OP ignore this one. Yes, I would have them apply to a rolling admissions school that you pretty much know is a slam dunk.

There is nothing wrong with me. The colleges will be asking these questions so that's why I brought them up.

OP here. If you must know, DC has pretty signings that anxiety/depression we are just now getting a handle on with meds. Extremely bright perfectionist, gets A’s when turns in work, but lots of missing assignments. School counselor recommends college with small class sizes. Psychiatrist and psychologists say DC will blossom on right pharma cocktail and DC has heart set on freshman dorm experience away from mama. Thank you to those with helpful and supportive suggestions.

Look into McDaniel College in MD. It's a small school with a good learning differences program. My friend went there years ago when it was Western MD College and had a good experience.

No college is “asking” anything.

He will either get in or not.

Does your child’s school limit the number of applications?

My son has anxiety/depression and LDs and much lower SAT but higher GPA at a top 40 school does telemedicine appointments with his counselor and is thriving. His GPA freshman year was not great, he has ups and downs but he is doing it. He is so much more mature 2 years later.

Good luck!
