Is it possible to get rid of Jack Smith?

At least he found time in his busy schedule to make the BOE meeting today. Seems like any meeting of importance he sends his minions to attend for him. Of course he didn't say anything of substance and no one from the BOE challenges him. Oh well, another day of fine leadership by Jack.

Did you watch the meeting? He actually got a bit of a dressing down, and while I agree that nobody has challenged him in the past, there was a group of 4-5 that did. And, he caved. They are taking it back and will re-assess which groups come back and how many when they finally hit the 15 per 100k threshold

Not as big of a public shaming as I would like, but he did walk away from that part with his tail between his legs

What has he done to make sure buildings are physically able to re-open this winter, this spring, next fall, whenever students can come back? Have hand sanitizer stations been placed throughout the schools, have more custodial staff been hired to meet the demand of more frequent cleanings, have schedules been prepared to make sure all classrooms being used have windows, have the antiquated HVAC systems been worked on, have the safety bars been taken off of windows to allow them to fully open, how have bathrooms been prepared to promote more air circulation? These are all things that other superintendent's began working on last April/May and I don't think Smith is pushing for all of this from his leadership position. I think the schools/classrooms unfortunately are going to look all too familiar whenever students return. There was also a major discussion on the budget shortfall for next year to the point of not being able to have summer school. Maybe shouldn't have wasted all that money on the boundary study, racism audit, hiring outside council to take on teacher's union, hiring additional central office staff. For anyone that actually supports Smith, you have to admit he is a disaster in putting together a budget. Time for Jack to go!

Why waste a ton of money on that? Things have gotten so bad now that opening schools would be total madness. Even the places that opened schools back in September and caused the surge have already had to shutdown.

Because eventually schools are going to reopen this year or next. This work takes a lot of man hours. Instead nothing is being done to prepare as Jack is assuming the world will magically revert to March 2020. He's content on doing what he does best, nothing.

You sound wonderfully qualified to be the next superintendent. I mean why do anything besides pray that this all goes away? That's been his plan for the last 9 months.

Smith cleaned up Starr's mess. Got rid of the broken C2.0. Fixed magnet admissions which had been gamed by the wealthy and has the guts to take on a long-overdue boundary analysis. Most importantly he doesn't play dice with our children's lives but listens to public health experts on how to best handle corona. I actually like the guy.

Everyone knew 2.0 was a disaster, he just proved it and moved on (with more than a little internal corruption, Discovery anyone?), magnet admissions now completely watered down, just ask the magnet teachers. Doesn't play dice with our children's lives? He has no choice, Dr Gayles won't let him open schools. He sits back, thanks the staff for their hard work, and does NOTHING.

Starr inherited C2.0 from Weast and started the boundary analysis process by initiating the choice study. Public health experts say schools can open, as they are throughout the country. Get your facts straight.

Smith listens to a single public health experts that tells him what he wants to hear, and ignores all others. He even refuses a request from the BoE to get input from a broader set of health experts.
