What has he done to make sure buildings are physically able to re-open this winter, this spring, next fall, whenever students can come back? Have hand sanitizer stations been placed throughout the schools, have more custodial staff been hired to meet the demand of more frequent cleanings, have schedules been prepared to make sure all classrooms being used have windows, have the antiquated HVAC systems been worked on, have the safety bars been taken off of windows to allow them to fully open, how have bathrooms been prepared to promote more air circulation? These are all things that other superintendent's began working on last April/May and I don't think Smith is pushing for all of this from his leadership position. I think the schools/classrooms unfortunately are going to look all too familiar whenever students return. There was also a major discussion on the budget shortfall for next year to the point of not being able to have summer school. Maybe shouldn't have wasted all that money on the boundary study, racism audit, hiring outside council to take on teacher's union, hiring additional central office staff. For anyone that actually supports Smith, you have to admit he is a disaster in putting together a budget. Time for Jack to go!
Why waste a ton of money on that? Things have gotten so bad now that opening schools would be total madness. Even the places that opened schools back in September and caused the surge have already had to shutdown.
Because eventually schools are going to reopen this year or next. This work takes a lot of man hours. Instead nothing is being done to prepare as Jack is assuming the world will magically revert to March 2020. He's content on doing what he does best, nothing.
