From DCPS, referring to online and in person classes: “DCPS leadership researched the success of this model in other districts and learned that a second adult is very helpful to make it work successfully. Therefore, teachers in Combined classrooms will have at least one additional full-time adult to assist. For self-contained SPED this will be your paraprofessional(s).” https://d31hzlhk6di2h5.cloudfront.net/20201023/69/cc/3e/04/8ecfae338bfd93202f8fc001/2020_10_23_Staff_Guidance_DCPS_Setting_Up_for_Term_2_Success_FINAL.pdf |
Sooo... for a self-contained which is supposed to have 3 kids in person, the lottery chooses one and the school two? I feel very sorry for the teachers who must pick two out of the five children in that classroom that didn't win the lottery, but have more or less equally intense needs! Did this happen today - did anyone receive a spot today? potentially as a result of teacher or principal appeal? |
I didn't and my self-contained kid will definitely get a spot since his class is enrolled at 50% capacity (so they all go back). I think their lottery didn't happen yet. Also, I heard some schools won't actually open on Nov 9th because of school readiness, HVAC issues etc. |
| We finally got a call offering an in-person slot to our autistic child. (Reportedly all kids in SWS’ high-functioning autism program were somehow originally excluded from the lottery. What a mess!) |
Happy for you and your child! Is he/she in a self-contained classroom or in one of the inclusion classrooms? |
Inclusion. |
Thank you! I think the only reason for these kids to be excluded from the lottery should have been that they are GUARANTEED a seat, so no lottery needed... |
