Huh? GF goes to Langley now. |
I am sure your anecdotal evidence is much greater than a parent who regularly attends meetings and is actively involved in Langley HS. I have heard of zero concerns about moving McLean HS students to Langley HS. Zero. No one cares about this. |
And why would they care about moving McLean kids to Langley. Those kids largely grew up together, play on club sports teams together. I agree that parents in Langley really aren't overly concerned with such a move.
Sending current Great Falls students to Herndon HS, which makes no sense at all considering Langley is underenrolled, causes some concern for people who live far out in Great Falls. But this is not likely a real issue. It makes no sense and the school Board hasn't said this is what they are going to do. It is likely a bunch of trolls trying to rile people up. |
Not the law, but by FCPS policy https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/files/97KJK54D54F8/$file/P8130.pdf
the school board can change up to 15% of a schools boundary population without public input or comment. |
Lol. Unfortunately I occasionally make mistakes. I meant Herndon. Don't tell anyone! |
Sounds like your “evidence” is anecdotal as well. As I said, I get that it’s not good for Langley’s reputation when some people in Great Falls object to making use of empty seats at LHS after FCPS just spent a lot of money to renovate and expand the school. But I think you’re better off making clear that you disagree with them than to imply it never happened, which just comes across as if you’re in denial. |
I too have never heard of anyone at Langley HS having any issues with McLean students being rezoned for Langley HS. I personally wouldn't have any issues with it either. My kids are friends with many kids at McLean HS. |
The PP is making things up. No Langley parent has ever voiced an issue with this, nor would there really be a reason to voice an issue with this. I understand the concerns of busing Herndon students 30-45 minutes to attend Langley HS, but there is no corresponding issue of sending students who live in McLean to Langley. It is not an issue and, as I said, no Langley parent has ever voiced an issue with this. |
Liar. |
+1. Typical Langley damage control. |
LOL, why would any of us Langley parents care about McLean HS students coming to Langley? You are delusional. Please tell me what the problem with this was. Please, I'd love to hear the so-called issue you heard. |
They claim that, if FCPS moves McLean kids to Langley, FCPS will get the numbers wrong; Langley will end up overcrowded, and FCPS will then move Langley kids from Great Falls to Herndon. I didn’t say I agree with these people or that they reflect the views of most Langley parents, whether they live in Great Falls or elsewhere. In fact, I think people who have this concern have been misled. I’m not sure why you’re being such a defensive dipshit about it. I know what I’ve heard, including at the 7/22 work session where dozens of Langley parents showed up with signs against boundary changes. |
This poster that you are replying to REALLY wants GF kids at Herndon. No amount of reality, geographic or otherwise, will quell that burning desire. |
It doesn't matter. FCPS has put a lot of money into Langley and land for schools in less expensive parts of the county is still really expensive. We need to make the most efficient use possible of our existing assets, unless you want to see taxes explode. |
"Whenever" is not happening. Virginia Law https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title22.1/chapter7/section22.1-79/ [i]§ 22.1-79. Powers and duties. A school board shall: 1. Care for, manage and control the property of the school division and provide for the erecting, furnishing, equipping, and noninstructional operating of necessary school buildings and appurtenances and the maintenance thereof by purchase, lease, or other contracts; 4. The CIP shows that McLean High School is currently at 114 percent of its capacity, with projections showing the population increasing to 127 percent by 2022. Meanwhile, the nearby Langley High School sits at 82 percent capacity following an extensive renovation...... Other school board members said they were uncomfortable approving a spot-boundary change before the School Board conducts a broader boundary examination on Feb. 25. “I do have concerns about doing a limited boundary change in one area without taking a more holistic analysis and approach,” said Tamara Derenak Kaufax, a representative from the Lee District, at a Jan. 14 work session. “We’re going to have to do what staff has been advocating, doing a holistic approach to [the] system and looking at the impacts.”.... “Sadly, no concrete proposals to address [McLean High School] crowding were added with the final revisions,” said Susan Garrahan, a parent to a McLean High School sophomore. “Some other Board members countered that the McLean-Langley boundary adjustment study should be rolled into a countywide boundary project set to start in late February, and that is what happened. Perhaps this will lead to a remedy for MHS on the same timetable as if it were just a McLean-Langley boundary adjustment project, but if it takes longer as part of a countywide project — and I think that is likely — it will be the students and staff who pay the price of overcrowding every additional day that it takes.” They could have addressed McLean's overcrowding. They are purposely keeping those kids in trailers. Why? for a "holistic approach to the system and looking at the impacts". Why oh why does McLean have to wait for a countywide boundary project when there is a school with capacity a mere 10-15 minutes away? |
