But just know that whichever artist you consider your fave would scream if Beyoncé asked to take a selfie with them.

She’s vulgar. You’re borderline illiterate.
You might not like the way she said it, but I think the pp is correct. Just a few people I've seen quotes from praising Bey: Adele, Blake Lively, Katy Perry, Hugh Jackman, Sam Smith, Gwyneth Paltrow, Adam Lambert. I could go on, there are tons of celebrities who have publicly adored her. It's true, chances are your "fave" is a Beyonce fan.

Wow, that’s quite a list of deep thinkers.

One of them thought long and hard before coming up with the name "Apple" for her child.

profound lyrics that could be used as part of a lesson in a HS English class

Now wait
I want y'all to get nice and stanky with me
Where I'm from
We do things nice and stanky
We do things nice and funky (alright y'all)
Can y'all repeat after me
You ready? Say

Hey-ay (hey-ay)
Hey ay-ay (hey ay-ay)
Hey-ay (hey-ay)
Hey ay-ay (hey ay-ay)
Hey-ay (hey-ay)
Hey ay-ay (hey ay-ay)
Hey-ay-yeah (hey-ay-yeah)
Hey-ay-ay (hey-ay-ay)

Now wait
You still ain't stankin' enough for me

It’s a dance song , it’s supposed to be profound ?
Ok you write a profound, fun dance tune.
Post the lyrics.

nah

I'm not stanky enough.

They were all great talents, songwriters with deep or emotionally affecting lyrics that didn’t have a message but reflected their (pained) realities of addiction, love, beauty. And yes, I realize they all died tragic deaths due to their additions. That underscores my point that. Don’t think music has to have a positive message. Black groups and artists like NWA, Public Enemy, Prince, even Salt and Pepe come to mind. Yes, I listen to these oldies because I’m Gen X. Bye bye, Bey. You trashy, clean up yr mustachey, yo a ho and yo gettin ol.

wow, another clueless white gen-Xer calling Beyonce trashy. How original.

i guess that singing about heroin addiction is deemed not trashy but a "pained reality of addiction".

fwiw I love elliot smith and don't care for Beyonce.

But previous poster is so comically racist, it's like a caricature of clueless white people.

But I’m not white. Not black either. That’s a head scratcher for you, huh? Also you can create art about any topic, but Beyoncé’s lyrics are just plain crass. She’s got nothing on great black women singers from the Motown era. She’s just trashy. Her music is junk.

I’ve thought she was boring since the days of Destiny’s Child. Too forced and artificial. No authenticity. No soul.

I'm white, and I think she's trashy. Her lyrics are stupid, and while she can move, some of her moves can be done on a pole.

Miley Cyrus is trash, too.

So I'm not sure what you're getting at by calling out "clueless white people," but hon, trash is trash. sorry if you have poor taste in performers

Trash is trash.

However, pp has the audacity to give a pass to the likes of white artist who had serious drug problems. I loved Amy Whinehouse but no, her lyrics were not that deep and guess what...she made a song with Jay-z. She also talked about sex and drugs. She was also vulgar and loved to cuss. She also looked like a crackhead.

You listing one white artist as trash is indeed clueless. Miley isn’t the only one.

Np and no I don’t think it’s a head scratcher. You probably want to embrace and be embraced by white culture.

You can be sexy and still have some self respect. Shania Twain's Feel Like a Woman is sexy w/o being vulgar. Beyonce's Love on Top is sexy w/o being vulgar.

Certainly youth does not = vulgar. I think she's missing the mark and hopefully she'll switch gears soon.

Shania Twain wore a white collared men’s shirt and heels. No pants. And stripped down to that in the video.

You’re missing the mark, Beyoncé is wildly successful even if you don’t like her.

But listen to Shania's song. Her words are not disrespectful to herself. She is talking about getting dressed up, going out with the girls and having some fun.

All while stripping down to be sexy. Beyoncé doesn’t owe you that style of music. Just listen to old Shania Twain and reminisce.

Really? I'm clueless?

So we're talking about Beyonce' - ONE artist - and you're asking for a list of trashy white artists who are rivals?

Why would I waste my time adding more to the list?

So . . . If this were about Miley Cyrus instead (b/c in my mind, she's hit an all-time low on the trash scale), would we also have to create a list of trashy black performers to list on that thread? sort of like . . . oh - You listed Amy W. So I'll come back with Cardi B., who hates p***y wedges, by the way, and thus felt the need to publicly "air it out." Klassy . . .

Is that what you want? b/c if so, I don't have time for that, as Cardi B. just about wore me out!

Can you read? I just said that I don't care for Beyonce.

Those who don't care for Beyoncé are free to frown and become all bent out of shape and enjoy whatever twisted pleasure you get out of being indignant about an artist no one is forcing you to listen to.
Those who do care for Beyoncé will have no problem ignoring your antics and melodramatics they will simply turn up the volume and enjoy Queen Bey like they always have whether you approve or not..

No I don’t actually. I just want to listen to good music. I don’t care if it’s about drugs or sex. I don’t care if the artist is white, black or green. I grew up in the new wave era, them got into punk and indie stuff, and most recently listen to a lot of soul and Motown. I’m not white, but Asian. And I’m a woman! I have an extremely diverse group of friends and mostly don’t share their taste in music. I especially dislike most (not all) dance music or contemporary pop music. Country or country lite is the worst. What they call emo these days is pure face tattoo trash. NPR fetishizes the worst music. As you can tell I am opinionated about music, but not race.
