Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
Disagree completely. The author says she was trying not to be "one of those moms" and that she knew her thoughts about Ebola was panic and not truly a concern. She was sent over the edge when she could tell the nurses were telling conflicting stories after her baby was 2 hours late! Anybody would panic at that point in time and feel like they couldn't trust the hospital or staff. That everything's turned out ok is just luck. I don't think the author is as upset about the formula as having to go through a few agonizing hours and have the hospital lie to her and not handle the whole thing as well as they should and that's the part that's worth sharing with other mothers. Also, I don't blame a reporter for trying to sensationalize their stories a bit - she's smart. I also understand that no hospital is perfect, but I work hard every day to do a good job at my job and not disappoint my coworkers or make them look bad and I expect the same of other people, including the Sibley nurses. We won't get their side of the story, but I hope that they either feel bad about what happened, or if they don't, find another profession that suits them better. |
Nope but clearly many people, probably you included, have so little going on in your life that making snide comments on a mommy blog is your only joy. |
Former nurse manager here: agreed it's not "over the top" at all. The baby's record would have had to show the formula intake as part of his intake/output, but the circumstances around it would most likely not be in the baby's medical record. Clinical observations only are part of the chart. |
Also, I'm not trying to defend OP. I wouldn't say she "opened herself up" either. I think she posted a link to her Washinggton Post article that's a bit sensational bc she's smart. All the attention only helps OP whether it's positive or nagative. What bothers me about the negativity is that I truly think some of it MUST be coming from a Sibley nurse that's pissed about some aspect of how the situation was handled. Why is she pissed? Is she a bad nurse or did Sibley hang her out to dry? I don't know but it doesn't bode well for the institution. Also, I can't imagine the Sibley nursing staff isn't reading this thread and tempted to post - come on. |
|
This was on Huff Po parents today. Op is obviously using it to try to promote a book or mommy blog or some other ridiculousness.
No one is denying that it shouldn't have happened. People on here are literally acting like a woman with AIDS breast-fed this baby. Just absurd. |
It's possible, but there were a lot of negative responses to OP's initial post within about an hour. I really doubt that was nurses. I'm not a nurse and have no association with Sibley. I just think OP is an over-dramatic asshole. |
| Switched at birth? More like a perfectly lovely new mother held my baby for five minutes. |
|
OP, I read your article before seeing all this on DCUM and appreciated it. Thanks for writing it and for holding Sibley accountable.
(a fellow journalist and mom) |
Seriously, the OP is eating up this thread b/c she's a marketing machine (in addition to a crappy writer). However, I posted the rich bitch comment and I'm not a nurse at Sibley. Just someone who is disgusted with how the OP and her husband completely violated the privacy of women who had just given birth. Shame on them. |
What privacy? When I was postpartim there were people coming in constantly, including people who were not at al involved in my medical care like male nursing students from the local community college who wanted to observe, people selling photography services, etc. Maybe the mom of the other baby was happy to find this mom. |
Students are only at a teaching hospital. People trying to sell you stuff like photos aren't allowed into your room at Sibley. You get a form if you want photos. The mom who had been given the baby could have sought out the OP but she obviously didn't. |
Yep. Dr here, as well. Completely relevant to charting and medical record. |
| I had a baby at Sibley and once found her in her bassinet at the nurses station instead of in the nursery where they told me they had to take her for mandatory tests. Thanks OP for the article! |

I have never seen so much shameless jealousy. Ya'll, you look like idiots commenting on her writing style and calling her names.
Between a bunch of anonymous hags and the editorial staff at the WaPo, whose opinion do you think actually carries weight. Losers. |
Jealous of what exactly? This post makes absolutely zero sense. |
