Where are you thinking?

Seriously though! What neighborhoods are you thinking of?

Here is the other side of the argument of what is happening in Arlington

So frustrating! Schools are already facing an uphill battle with enrollment. I can't believe that the ACB is turning me against Democrats.

Here are the details...

"Mi Voz Cuenta is advocating for affordable housing in the neighborhoods near Columbia Pike, adding that the mixed-income neighborhoods have attracted diversity, and with it vibrancy, to the area, the group said. The group is also open to affordable housing throughout the county, said group spokeswoman Jessica Sarriot."

"We want to make sure that you also know that many residents of Barcroft, Alcova Heights, and the rest of the Columbia Pike corridor remain dedicated to the idea of expanding affordable housing in our area,” the group said. “What our families really need is stable housing, housing where rents do not get raised exponentially year after year.”

Looks like Yorktown high school is untouched, WL and Wakefield are the main receivers

Yes, wonder how that happened. Oh wait, I don't. VOICE and APAH got a bunch of signatures from affordable housing activists and residents of affordable housing who have been told that CARD is trying to kick them out of their homes. Seems legit. Their spokesperson doesn't even live in Arlington. But it's totally a grassroots org and representative of the majority of voters in South Arlington.

I am a lifelong Democrat and am disgusted that the powers that be are not engaging in best practices. The proposed AH plan in its earlier form was quite clearly a bag of goodies for the AH folks—it was all quantity, quantity, quantity. Comments could appropriately be made about the make-up of the “citizens group” who helped to devise the plan and the advisability of turning over county policy-writing to people who advocate for certain interests.

It seems to me that the appearance on the scene of CARD surprised both the AH developers and the county’s housing department and spoiled their party. Diversity? Inclusion? CARD may be the AH developers’ worst nightmare.

If the ACDC continues on the path set out for them by AH developers and their political arms, they will no longer be getting my vote.

^^^ just curious...

Has CARD managed to get some changes made to the plan? Substantial changes?

Will CARD be endorsing a county board candidate or candidates?

I really hope CARD doesn't dissolve after this vote- it seems this is just really the tip of the iceberg.

Love the My Vote Counts crowd's answer to the argument that concentrated affordable housing is harming schools (based on this Arl Now article, anyway): It's better than no housing at all. They don't seem to actually address the value of geographic distribution. They seem to PREFER that all future affordable housing be concentrated in S. Arlington, and don't care that their schools are SIGNIFICANTLY underperforming. If that's what they want, that's what they will get. The County is DYING to give it to them.

Its not their answer at all...
This is a " grass roots " organization brought to you by VOICE, which has AH developers associated with it. Such a disgusting cash grab. I'm sure it wasn't hard to walk door to door in these huge complexes off the pike and say, " they are going to kick you out of your homes if you don't sign this".

I thought we were known for our " smart growth"...

Sounds like you would want to buy in Yorktown, the other two zones seem to be in for some turbulent waters in the future and beyong.

Thanks PP who posted the map! I'm a bit frustrated that the map does not have a breakdown of current housing numbers of the Pike and "other" though, I think that would be giving a more complete picture.
Is this map what this group wants, or is this what the board has on the table as a plan? If the latter, I would be very concerned no matter where you are in Arlington, unless I lived in the super far north (Jamestown).

Especially interesting that our S. Arlington neighborhood will receive less housing than several neighborhoods north of us...
Nonetheless it is total madness, and I'm very upset, they are using our tax money for this! The numbers are HUGE. WHAT IS THE BOARD THINKING?
They are struggling as it is with the student numbers!
That's the reason I can't be all that happy about CARD either - they just want redistribution - sorry, I don't want any of it!!! The county is digging its own grave here. Where is their future revenue supposed to come from? Grandfather in the current renters and let the market take over. You could add vouchers for county service employees and seniors. Sorry, if that is not politically correct.
Looks like really bad news for both metro corridors.
