Bowe Bergdahl

I really don't see how this is becoming a partisan issue. Pretty sad that the left is defending this move.

It is going to be controversial when you (1) release prisoners of war when the war is still ongoing and (2) when you praise a deserter.

Personally, I'm ok with exchanging the prisoners but can see where there would be legitimate 2nd guessing. But I'm not ok with making this guy out to be a hero and hope he faces charges.

Can you point out who in this thread said he was a hero? Because I'm pretty sure no one did.

Not the PP, but Susan Rice did say that he served with "honor and distinction".......so, I guess the WH led us to think he is a hero......

What's Bergdahl's academic background prior to enlisting? A common misconception is that our spies are lowlifes that drop out of society but have a knack for killing people, like what's his name on Scandal. But more often than not, they're very intelligent with strong academic creds, hence the mastery of difficult foreign languages. Perhaps his learning the language of his captors is the reasoning for this theory?

Of course, there are exceptions to the rule.

Bergdahl looked quite healthy on the released footage. And why did his captors lament about not being able to say goodbye?

Wasn't his deteriorating health a concern?

Why would he forget how to speak English? And if he did, why did his father also speak to him in English after saying he forgot?

In almost every movie we've seen, everyone speaks English. Often, they may be a British accent, but surely they spoke enough English around him to keep him current.

Leading conservative commentators are starting to also arrive at the conclusion that the President did have authority. http://mediamatters.org/video/2014/06/03/watch-charles-krauthammer-debunk-claims-that-ob/199578

He looked pretty ragged and horrendous to me.

This became a partisan issue when you nut jobs made it one. You and your kind are just disgusting. You have tried and convicted this soldier in the press to score political points and the people doing it did every thing they could to avoid service- think Cheney, Beck, O'Reilly, Rush etc. You say Bergdahi got others killed, while just brushing over all the military member killed and wounded in Iraq, a war that you republican lied us in to. Calling the POWs exchanged terrorist, while republicans release over 500 with the same classification and who fought against after release. Yep let's roll some more interviews of the soldiers who served with Bergdahi saying we should not have got him back b/c he didn't drink beer with us. I am sick of you fucks. You have crossed the line. Fuck you hope you and your kind burn in hell.

No. Actually, it is his squad and team members who are saying that he got others killed.
By the way, Bush had nothing to do with this. Afghanistan is Obama's war.

Really, did Obama have a time machine? We invaded in 2001.

Maybe you are mixing up Afghanistan with Pakistan.

1. I think it pretty natural to think that a high profile deserter would be high profile news. Come on.

2. who is brushing over the numbers killed in Iraq? how is that relevant? I was and remain against to the Iraq War.

3. do you think desertion in combat is acceptable? it is pretty much the worst crime a solider can commit. now, that said, who knows if I'd have the guts to serve in combat. I recognize that it is hard and people get sick and shellshocked. but there is treatment for that. this guy chose the wrong way.

4. at what point is Obama accountable for ANYTHING? it is 2014. the troops have been deployed his entire presidency. POWs (or whatever you call them) have been held in Cuba the entire time. I'm personally ok with both decisions, but how is Obama covered in Teflon?
