Anzelone was the former owner and he got out just like i said he would when his son graduated. Mission accomplished. Now Urick can launch his kids.

Sadly this is the way of these clubs. Their kids and their kids' friends above all others.

IF BLC's recent track record with the boys' club program is any indication of how daddy ball is going to work with the older kids at DCE, this merger seems like it's going to be a disaster.

BLC is where they don’t do daddy ball - see ML 2027, NL 2030, NL 20 whatever McCavera - all teams formed at BLC with dad coaches who wanted to keep going so had to take their entire teams - cutting more and more original players every year of course - to these other places.

Ah, no. These BLC daddy ball teams didn't implode because BLC wouldn't let the coaches continue to coach their teams. They imploded because the daddy coach model that BLC permits got so toxic that team after team disbanded in order to play for NL, ML, etc. where they largely avoid dad coaches.

I really was hoping for DCE to find a way through the fact that the BLC pipeline for talent in the 2030, 2031, 2032, 2033 etc. classes is so weak. Tying themselves even more strongly to the BLC pipeline is the worst thing they can do to build DCE from within.

Madlax 29– Daddy Coach
Madlax 28– daddy Coach
Next Level 28- just a bad coach
Next Level 29- Daddy Coach
Next Level 30– Daddy Coach

Not saying it’s a bad thing, but your insinuation that DCE is daddy ball is factually bankrupt

Didn't over 10 players from ML, Daddy Coach, leave to go to DCE a couple years ago?

Yes they did, but the daddy coach stayed behind with his prodigy son

BLC is a very strong club financially. It is not dad run. They helped bring DCE to the area from Long Island and helped to create the offering here in the DMV.

The club itself was chiefly introduced by a dad in the area who identified a need for a high level offering out side of ML who had strong connections.

When DCE began the death spiral it is in currently, BLC had rights to purchase the remaining stake.

I think BLC can make things a lot better for current families. Their letter to current players showed they have identified the shortcomings in the club currently.

Unfortunately the last few years of young men really missed out and paid for it, and not just financially.

what death spiral? My son is on the 2028 Black team and as far as I can tell the team is is doing great. It has been playing in great tournaments this summer and current fall, winning most of its games, and is stronger than its two local competitors (NL and ML) in the 2028 class. In addition to all the usual fall tournaments they have done private showcases at Maryland, Penn, and Princeton, they are going to IMCLA in Orlando next month to coincide with the NCAA coaches' convention, they had a very informative presentation on recruiting at the start of the fall, and have a recruiting information session coming up with the head coach at Richmond. My understanding is that most of the 2026's are committed to good schools, including a late commit to Duke. My son is expecting that he and most of his 2028 teammates are on track to get recruited as well. am I missing something?

Why don't the teams you talk about try to do anything with their B teams? If you helped all of your players, you would be able to keep and have more kids. Or are the B teams really that much worse?

I'm not sure what you mean by "try to do anything with their B teams." The fact that all three age groups have robust rosters on both the Black and Orange teams is impressive in itself. I would guess that about half the Orange players aspire to play D3 or club lacrosse in college, and the other half are playing for fun and to improve their ability to contribute to their HS teams. D3 recruiting happens on a different timeline than D1, and I would expect that DCE gives the Orange players the recruiting support they need at the appropriate time. I don't know what you mean by "much worse," but I don't think that Orange players looking to get noticed by D1 teams so naturally they aren't doing private showcases at Maryland, Penn, and Princeton like the Black teams are.

I am guessing that some Orange players are still trying to get moved up to the Black team. From what I heard from others last year, that didn’t happen. So I am guessing they will move to another team if offered to play on an A team.

probably so, and that is the beauty of having three A level teams in town. If DCE does not offer a player an A team roster spot, and Next Level or MadLax does, then he can make that move and everyone wins. If none of the three offer an A spot, then that is valuable intel on where he stands.

I know of 3+ kids who left DCE Orange to go to Madlax top team and they never play. Bad move. They could have gotten valuable playing time in Orange, which is the best of the B teams around here by a long shot. They’ve beaten some elite teams (like Team 91 Charlotte Blue)

It also doesnt help that kids on the Madlax/ Supreme team do not know who will showup from out of state.

Pretty much true of all the clubs now once you get to HS. Every club is a national team at that point.

There are a lot of dad's coaching at DCE. Sounds like one team brough on a dad with college connections, added a new middie line (this is pure profit for DCE and a model they have been known for) Knocking better kids down to play coaches kids is wrong on every level.

the teams most notorious for demoting better players for coaches' kids are MadLax 2027 and 2028. But I have not heard of it in DCE - which DCE team(s) are you referring to?

Didn't Urick go from BLC to NL and back to BLC to coach his kids.

27 DCE was dad coached at a couple of events this fall bc Severns couldn't make it. They've had a number of guest coaches and practice cancellations over the important high school years due to many schedule conflicts. It has not been nearly the experience the early years of the club had with Anzelone's direct involvement.

It's sort of funny how a lot of these negative posts are blatantly untrue
