Don't underestimate celebrity narcissism. However, I still think there's an interesting way to conclude the Aidan arc--acknowledging the underlying grief/anxiety/looking-for-safety dynamic that drove it this far even though the original incompatibilities remain. The other ladies' storylines have improved overall. Joy is a plus, LTW experiencing attraction to another man despite her perfect life could be interesting, and Seema is fun to watch (if no Samantha). They missed the boat with Charlotte's bratty kids. Would have been much more interesting if they had turned out to be the perfect bots she envisioned and gradually learned to find themselves outside of that upper east side bubble. Making them both unsympathetic brats does not make for good stories. Giuseppe needs to go. Love Anthony, but the effort to recreate the sweet Stanford/Marcus vibe is a bust. All in all, still shaky but potentially on an upswing imo. |
Narcissism + relevance + $$$$$$ |
I also wonder if SJP is annoyed that Kristen Davis is such a horrid actress. I don't love Miranda's character arc, but Cynthia Nixon is an esteemed and gifted actress, as is SJP. Davis isn't in their league and it shows...painfully. |
It bummed me out the way Marcus was dropped. The relationship was faltering and I suppose no way to bring him back now, but he and Stanford were so much more appealing than Stanford and Anthony. I agree Giuseppe is a weak substitute. I'm tired of seeing so much of Bitsy, at least show us how her kid turned out. And bring back other OG characters! NYC is basically a small town. Would be so much fun to see how some of those characters ended up. Certainly Trey and Smith should make appearances. How about Skipper? Or at least be mentioned in convos as fun little callbacks. |
Willie Garson who played Stannie passed away ![]() |
I know. He is missed. Apparently he requested his character be kept alive, hence the silly monk plot. If they had been able to have a funeral for the character, Anthony and Marcus could both have been there. And perhaps connected? |
Huh! Was there any discussion of this on the show? Nathan Lane’s character was supposed to be a friend of Carrie’s (vs Bitsy was barely known to any of the 4 original women other than as the person marrying Carrie’s friend). Does Carrie ignore the death of all people in her life… |
Watch The Guided Age…Nixon’s acting in it makes Davis look like she has immense talent. |
While I like Joy, I hate that Miranda is always like a dog in heat: gay bar, waitress, Joy…literally any female. It made her seem shallow when there is a lot they could have done with her. LTW’s story is boring. Her kids’ stories are boring (how many songs does her kid need to sing)? I absolutely cannot stand Seema. Entitled, holier than thou, and is not a good Samantha replacement. Harry is terrible, too. Prostate cancer is diagnosed with a scheduled biopsy after blood test results. He wouldn’t have told her he was having a biopsy? Charlotte's kid who was dating the dancer…all she does is pout. Giuseppe’s accent is horrible and he is not a good actor. Very little - imo - that is likable. But I guess many subsequent seasons or series in a movie are like that. The cloning of the original has gone horribly wrong here. |
Agree. Her GA overacting is horrible. |
Just a mention early in season 1: “when I lost my Bobby…” |
The writers approached Kyle McClachlan with something for an appearance and he rejected it saying something delicious like “I think the character is worth more than their first idea.” |
Why would anyone watch this instead of SaTC reruns? |
Yeah, I hate this too. Also, I keep remembering when Steve was dating Debbie and Miranda realized that she loved him and wanted to be with him. Also, in Season 1 of SATC, Miranda was set up on a blind date with Syd, who was a lesbian. They had fun playing softball at the company event, and later Miranda kissed Syd to confirm that she wasn't interested in women. Her friend group certainly was open to the idea and would have supported her (Samantha dated a woman for a while, and Charlotte kind of flirted with the idea when she was hanging out with the gay ladies in the art world). I just didn't find it believable in AJLT that Miranda is leaving Steve and has suddenly, after years and a child, realized she IS a lesbian. That just wasn't the same Miranda. I know Cynthia Nixon has a lot of input in forming the character of Miranda in AJLT, but she's created a wholly new Miranda who doesn't resemble the SATC Miranda at all. Carrie has not matured or grown at all. She's still selfish, but it's a much worse look on an almost 60 year old than it was on young Carrie who was still growing as a person in SATC. |
I think Miranda has to be in heat because no one else is having sex on this show. Carrie is forced into celibacy because of Aiden; Harry has cancer (thought how to keep it hot when he can't keep it up in the bedroom could be fun); LTW and her husband don't sleep together anymore - the night talking right; and Seema is single and no one wants to be around her. I can see that Miranda is now to legal work "for good" so she can be morally bad? But I don't get it. Her character is now on something. she's sober so no drama unless we want a relapse. Carrie is also bleh she is this oh so sophisticated New Yorker who owns no books, no music, doesn't go to shows (except teen ballet); art openings etc. Her whole personality was chasing big and now its nothing. |
