I am truly baffled because SJP is not an idiot. This drivel is ruining the original show's legacy. Surely someone must clue her in? She must suspect? How is this travesty allowed to continue?
Don't underestimate celebrity narcissism. However, I still think there's an interesting way to conclude the Aidan arc--acknowledging the underlying grief/anxiety/looking-for-safety dynamic that drove it this far even though the original incompatibilities remain. The other ladies' storylines have improved overall. Joy is a plus, LTW experiencing attraction to another man despite her perfect life could be interesting, and Seema is fun to watch (if no Samantha). They missed the boat with Charlotte's bratty kids. Would have been much more interesting if they had turned out to be the perfect bots she envisioned and gradually learned to find themselves outside of that upper east side bubble. Making them both unsympathetic brats does not make for good stories. Giuseppe needs to go. Love Anthony, but the effort to recreate the sweet Stanford/Marcus vibe is a bust. All in all, still shaky but potentially on an upswing imo.
While I like Joy, I hate that Miranda is always like a dog in heat: gay bar, waitress, Joy…literally any female. It made her seem shallow when there is a lot they could have done with her. LTW’s story is boring. Her kids’ stories are boring (how many songs does her kid need to sing)? I absolutely cannot stand Seema. Entitled, holier than thou, and is not a good Samantha replacement. Harry is terrible, too. Prostate cancer is diagnosed with a scheduled biopsy after blood test results. He wouldn’t have told her he was having a biopsy? Charlotte's kid who was dating the dancer…all she does is pout. Giuseppe’s accent is horrible and he is not a good actor. Very little - imo - that is likable. But I guess many subsequent seasons or series in a movie are like that. The cloning of the original has gone horribly wrong here.
Yeah, I hate this too. Also, I keep remembering when Steve was dating Debbie and Miranda realized that she loved him and wanted to be with him. Also, in Season 1 of SATC, Miranda was set up on a blind date with Syd, who was a lesbian. They had fun playing softball at the company event, and later Miranda kissed Syd to confirm that she wasn't interested in women. Her friend group certainly was open to the idea and would have supported her (Samantha dated a woman for a while, and Charlotte kind of flirted with the idea when she was hanging out with the gay ladies in the art world). I just didn't find it believable in AJLT that Miranda is leaving Steve and has suddenly, after years and a child, realized she IS a lesbian. That just wasn't the same Miranda. I know Cynthia Nixon has a lot of input in forming the character of Miranda in AJLT, but she's created a wholly new Miranda who doesn't resemble the SATC Miranda at all. Carrie has not matured or grown at all. She's still selfish, but it's a much worse look on an almost 60 year old than it was on young Carrie who was still growing as a person in SATC.
