I have a family member who was a longtime AUSA and First Attorney in a US Attorney's office.

After Comey did his song and dance on Hillary, I spoke with him.

His take: Comey had no business at all doing what he did. The FBI does not prosecute and it was not his job as director to decide. It was his job (FBI job)to run the investigation and report to the Attorney General.

What Comey did: He laid out a perfect example of someone who should be prosecuted. Any "reasonable prosecutor" would have prosecuted her, contrary to what Comey said.
However, it was not supposed to be Comey's call. It was supposed to be Lynch's call. She likely would not have prosecuted Clinton for political reasons.

Why did Comey do it? Again, he was trying to split the baby. He knew she was guilty, but wanted her to win. I think he thought she would win, anyway. He is a peculiar guy. Maybe, he was afraid of the facts coming out later if he did not share. Who knows?

He certainly did not treat Trump fairly. He wanted to find the goods on Trump. Flynn was the sacrificial lamb.

As for Comey's politics? Who knows. His wife did go to the Women's March a few days after the Inauguration. That was her right, but had my DH been FBI director, I think I would have stayed home on that day.

He writes novels now. That is likely a good job for him.

Comey should have known better than to post a reference to murdering Trump. Should he go to jail? I don't know. If Kash Patel were to post something similar about the next democratic president, they would certainly seek jail time.

A lot of people don’t believe this was a death threat. Because of the historical meaning of “86,” there’s no way to prove that this was intended that way.
