How would you cut the budget?

Go to zero based budgeting. Ask hard questions. Does what I am spending money on directly support classroom education? Does this item directly support the classroom teacher? Are text books for subject more cost effective than software? Is this curriculum item performing as expected (e.g. should we keep ST Math)?

This would allow for the identification of a lot of waste.

Easy. Cut administrators and consultants. No one will know the difference

Cut Gatehouse staffing by 50%.

100%. All they do is layer new costs on each year. They never look to see if things are working and never make any cuts.

I keep seeing new job postings for the school board member staff. Maybe cut those positions if the budget situation is so disastrous?

Does anyone know how much they make. If you google their names, several are very involved in political activism.

I’d set up a transitional school for English language learners. You test in/out and return to your neighborhood school once fluency is achieved.

Eliminate AAP centers. Your base school will suffice.

The current job postings have a huge pay band up to $121K.

So, tell me how that is justified. They make more than teachers who actually educate kids.

FCPS has lost sight of its purpose.

And, again, SB members are hiring political activists for these jobs. Why?

Reid also has another job postings- even higher salary - in her office. She has greatly increased the number of staff in her office. I think Brabrand had one or two and she has several.

First off, know that I’m definitely not saying school board staff should make up to $121k (spouse and I are both teachers), but the teacher scale goes up to $123,900. So the “up to” amount isn’t necessarily higher. I haven’t looked at the SB staff pay scale, (do you have a link?) so I don’t know the highest step number of years’ experience to compare that piece.

Well, it looks like the SB is running a little Fairfax DNC at their offices. That is troubling.

“Up to” is not accurate in determining how much they currently make

Considering the number of ESL students in the county, that school would need to support 15-20% of the county’s students.

These are relatively new jobs so I don’t know what the people who have been hired are making.
