The documents are obviously made at different times. The second one you reference has 2017 as a date in it. That's not a lie. Do they need to update their marketing? Yeah. But as someone whose child went through Kennedy's IB program, got into several selective colleges, and is now thriving at one of them, I really wish you people who didn't send their kids there would just shut up about it. Kennedy is a solid choice. And frankly, it probably looks better to a lot of admissions reps than RMIB. |
Why? And how do you know what you know? ![]() |
I feel the same. Other than the RMIB, it's not worth doing an IB program at the other schools. Your kid is better of finding more challenging work by doing AP classes. It will allow your kid to have more freedom in choosing classes. The RMIB is wonderful because of the whole program and the cohort and is definitely worth the extra time/work/effort. It is an incredibly well-organized and well-supported program. The IBDP programs at some of the other HSs is not worth it - stick to AP classes instead. |
Are you familiar with IBDP at other schools to be saying so about their programs? |
Are you familiar with IBDP at other schools to know the contrary? |
No IB student cohort had an admission rate at UC Berkeley of 58%, 2017 or not. Presenting these slides at parent information nights is dishonest. That tells me everything about the integrity of the people running the program. If they need to rely on these deceptions to enroll students, I’m guessing they are quite desperate. It doesn’t inspire confidence in the IB program, which btw is not very good to begin with. |
I agree with this. In addition to IB, RMIB has a broad AP offering, post AP courses, good teachers and students. That’s the receipt for a successful school. AP is better than the non-magnet IB schools. |
APs are a scam. How does that sound to you? |
BCC parent here. Our college counselor said go for AP for strongest applications and that the top 20 have difficulty figuring out what to do with IB applicants. AP may be a scam like past posters say but it is the way it works. |
And RM et al says IB is the way to go, as long as student can handle it as it is the most rigorous. |
Top 20 globally for IB. God bless the current US of A. |
That's if they sport the high level IB courses. It is clear that not all of MCPS's IB-offering schools do so, claiming there isn't enough "pull" from the community, leaving higher-capability students there at a loss. |
There are 8 HS out of 26 that offer IB program. Obviously fewer students will go through IB.
AP and DE (dual enrollment) for the majority rest of the students. |
What specifically is a scam about AP? Don’t think I’ve seen College Board claiming 58% of AP Capstone Diploma students get into Berkeley. Name dropping and fake statistics is usually a give away that the program is not good. |
Everyone is going APs. AP classes are ubiquitous across the good ole US of A. |
