Crazy NYT article on the lab leak theory for COVID

That pretty much settles it. The US House of Representatives, with all of its resources, tried mounting a partisan witch hunt, investigated Fauci with access to files and documents not available to the general public, and used its ability to haul in Fauci and other witnesses to grill them and get sworn testimony - and yet totally FAILED to make the case on the litany of Fauci and COVID coverup conspiracy theories. As such, some rando on the internet, some talking head on right wing media has even less worthwhile or legitimate commentary to make on the subject of Fauci and COVID conspiracy theories.

So just f off and shut up, people.

Oh, Fauci definitely was very clever with his words. He can truthfully say NIH didn't directly fund the COVID research in Wuhan because NIH didn't directly hand over the money to WIV, but NIH knew about Peter Daszak and EcoHealth Alliance. And Fauci unquestionably summoned a bunch of the leading virologists in the US to a major meeting, a number who had previously expressed astonishment at aspects of the COVID DNA sequence seemingly being unnatural, and then suddenly after the meeting all double down on COVID being naturally occurring, and gave no reason for their change of minds.

A logical explanation is that Fauci and his peers genuinely were afraid of Trump and that he would weaponize COVID as part of his reelection strategy and use it as an excuse to thoroughly gut Federal spending for scientific research. And there's no shortage of circumstantial evidence including the correspondence over private emails to avoid FOIA (which in turn makes you ask what exactly were they afraid of),

Still, the irony is that we've gone from COVID IS NATURALLY OCCURRING to pretty much everyone accepting it was a lab leak except for the most partisan adherent. A lot of what we were told in the early years of COVID was misinformation turned out to be true. Sooner or later the truth always comes out. It may take more time for Fauci's full role to become more apparent. If Trump wins, I do expect this to be a prominent DOJ investigation.

NYT published an article 5 months before we shut down about the decrease in lab funding and the risks that meant for the next pandemic. Google it. October 2019.

EcoHealth and Dr Daszak were receiving federal funds until Biden shut it all down just last month.

Ask yourself why it took that long.

To suggest none of that matters is to have serious political blinders on.

What exactly forced the shut down of their taxpayer profits?

I don’t think anything has been conclusively proven, but I suppose Republicans will spend all their time and energies trying to string together conspiracy into fact. And To what end? - to cover for the fact that Trump totally bungled the response in a way that lead to millions of people needlessly dying? To cover for the fact that China owns our consumerist economy? To the fact that we are worse off now for the next pandemic?

This article isn’t the gotcha you think it is.

Whatever the scientists feared from Trump, it is likely true. He is no friend to anything that advances the human endeavor.

AND to put a real dent in terrorism- stop funding/ arming Israel, secure a Palestinian state by force of UN arms and keep the UN there for decades if need be- settle the issue so that the cause of the fighting is eliminated - ending the cash cow of the weapons industry ( sic Pol/mil branch of US Dept of State)

While I support the two state solution, let's remember please how the whole thing started this time - A major terrorist attack on the Israelis.

Israel is under constant threat of flat out annihilation by multiple countries and terrorist organizations. There is good reason for them to be armed.

No one (except maybe the Israeli government) is happy with the brutality of their assault in the name of rooting out Hamas. Most support eliminating Hamas, but not the wiping out of those who live in Gaza.

The whole thing is no win at this point, and I think most in the country want the death of innocents to stop.

Everyone needs to be on board with a two-state solution, but I don't know about a UN military occupation. The war just needs to end now

So it was Trump's pentagon that was spreasding the misinformation.

And Biden didn’t end it immediately, which is really weird.

If you read the whole article, you learn that Facebook let Biden's National Security Council know "shortly after inauguration" about the program (which was being run out of trailers in Tampa).

By spring 2021, the National Security Council ordered the military to stop all anti-vaccine messaging. “We were told we needed to be pro-vaccine, pro all vaccines,” said a former senior military officer who helped oversee the program. Even so, Reuters found some anti-vax posts that continued through April and other deceptive COVID-related messaging that extended into that summer. Reuters could not determine why the campaign didn’t end immediately with the NSC’s order. In response to questions from Reuters, the NSC declined to comment.

I know from people who work in the Pentagon and the National Security space that there were many, many fires that needed to be put out when the Biden people came in. This one probably wasn't as high a priority as others.

Seriously, Trump cannot be President again, it will be a disaster.

Operation Warp Speed was started by Trump's administration and Trump promoted the vaccine heavily, and even received flak from many of his supporters from it. Fascinating how selective memories are. The link you're showing us is about the Chinese vaccine, which, incidentally, is significantly less effective than the vaccines developed in the US and Europe.

Did you read the article? The pentagon spent millions on a misinformation campaign to get people to not take the Chinese sinovac vaccine. This was the only vaccine available to most of these people, as Moderna and Pfizer were not available. They spread false information on social media and especially targeted Filipinos and Muslims in middle east countries. And the main reason they did so was as a f you to the Chinese. Completely disregarding the fact that the best interest in people's health at the time was the vaccine.

What they did is horrible and a huge blow to public health worldwide.

I'm still trying to understand why the lab leak theory is more racist than the bat soup theory.

Who cares. None of the vaccines were effective. And they aren't dealing with the vaccine injuries now. Not sure who p'owned who here.

You will have to ask Trump and his supporters. His dog whistles are for their ears only.

Obviously our government can't be trusted. The fact that so many people are willing to believe what they are told is appalling.
