Crazy NYT article on the lab leak theory for COVID

Remember when Democrats were screaming about "Trusting Science!" and that the lab leak theory was nothing more than hack conspiracy theory?

Ain't no quack either, but written by a friggin' Broad Institute scientist! The evidence that COVID started with a lab leak is so disturbing. Why are governments around the world so afraid to severely reprimand China for potentially starting a pandemic that killed millions? All economic ties should be immediately be cut if more evidence piles on supporting the lab leak theory and China making it extremely difficult to investigate the issue.

I’m a liberal but never said that. I said who cares if it’s from a lab or a wet market? Neither can make me think any less of China. There’s a million reasons to reprimand China. Uyghurs? Child labor? Forced labor? IP theft? The list is soooooo long! I guess we overlook everything because pandas.

Meh, the article talks about how it was funded tangentially by the U.S. The biggest problem though was China’s far too lax safety measures in the lab and doing additional research for the Chinese military. Libs will love to try to contort it into the US’ fault even 99% of the blame would be on China for conducting the research, having terrible safety protocols, performing even more black box research for the Chinese government and then covering it all up and destroying samples.

I’m liberal and I’ve always thought the CCP sucks donkey dicks.
However I ( and many other very smart people) thought pointing fingers at China was a distraction in the beginning.
Because it was a distraction.
It didn’t matter how it arrived.
It arrived and we didn’t have our sh—- together to deal with it.
The CDC was such an unmitigated cluster, I’m still in awe of how badly they responded. Testing was such a shocking failure. In my life I never would have believed the US would blow the response so spectacularly.
Between that and the Afghanistan withdraw… my faith in our institutions has truly been shook.

The CCP is never going to cooperate. Labs will continue to study novel viruses as part of efforts to understand biological agents/cures/weapons/etc.

Even if the lab leak is right….what does it change? Nothing. Millions still died, no country was prepared, no one is getting reparations from China.

No hard evidence? The laboratory doing the research was in the exact same vicinity to where the virus first appeared. That wasn’t some random guess nor was it rocket science. “The year before the outbreak, the Wuhan institute, working with U.S. partners, had proposed creating viruses with SARS‑CoV‑2’s defining feature” - NYT. Read Alina Chan’s just published essay.

Where was the evidence for a naturally occurring virus? No animal reservoir was found months and months of looking.

Like so many things back then, it became a big issue because people HAD TO BE oppositional to Trump no matter how obvious the truth was.

Also see democrats refusing to fill up the SPR at rock bottom prices during Covid. An objectively smart decision that senate Dems stopped because Trump was for it.

At the time. It didn’t EFFING MATTER.
Cat was out of the bag. Horse was out of the barn. Train had left the station.
No lives were being saved with that knowledge AT THAT TIME.
Unless knowing how it arrived affected treatment? Or testing? Creating a vaccine?
None of those things were dependent on finding the cause.
China sucks though. No argument there.

I am still livid at Kamala suggesting the Covid vaccine was unsafe because it developed under Trump’s presidency. That is the most irresponsible comment I’ve ever seen a VP make and it won’t be memory holed.
