Isn't it horrifying how one man can wreck all of our institutions because...of his strong personality?

It's pitiful. The Supreme Court is pititful.

No one has been charged let alone convicted of insurrection.

All three levels of the Colorado judiciary determined after a weeks long civil proceeding that Trump engaged in an insurrection.

So you are saying that a red state could kick Biden off the ballot if the courts in that state just decided that his actions, for example, with respect to Iran (or maybe his actions to have DOJ prosecute his political opponent) constitutes an insurrection? And every state gets to decide whether Trump or Biden can be on their ballot? Quite the can of worms.

I can't tell if the people writing this stuff are disingenuous or actually insane.

At this point it does not seem like there is a constitution anymore. SCOTUS is a kabuki theater of right wing judges parsing language from the constitution together in such a way to make the constitution meaningless.

It shows the total corruption of the court.

But why would that matter? Biden will not get any electoral college votes from a right wing state regardless if he is on the ballot or not. Same with trump. It really does not matter. The majority of states during a presidential election are uncontested.

The removal of a candidate only matters in a swing state and in states that do not do winner take all.

So if George Wallace ran today all state would be required to place his name on the ballot. Wow this will be one of the most radical decisions in history of the court. This is a nationalization of state elections process.

Agreed in practice, but then why are the blue states doing this?

Whatever these justices are, they certainly aren't originalists.

DP.
This was a point made by the Justices during arguments.

Who cares! It is meaningless.

The Justices who you would not consider as "right wing" asked some of the toughest questions of the attorney representing CO and were the most skeptical of his arguments.

To be fair the fact of appointing a Justice for life no questions asked is kinda ridiculous. Pretty dumb and silly as my 6th grade kid who is quite the street smart one pointed out. I think that is a set up for corruption. If a judge is gonna be in the high court forever, they have no boundaries.

Please. This 14th amendment nonsense seems like such a desperate grasping at straws. And I’m a Never Trumper.

Nor do you grasp what it means to be a nation of laws.

Or are you in favor of going back to having slavery? If we're going to ignore the Fourteenth Amendment as nonsense?

DP.
I think pp was saying that CO's interpretation and decision regarding the 14th Amendment in this case is nonsense.
I agree.

What about the 2nd? Get a few new judges and that is gone.

He’ll use a bunch of capitalized words out of place. And scream “WITCHUNT” and so forth and normal people will have to basically see this. I don’t see how evangelicals believe trump is some kind of flawed messenger of God. I don’t understand how seemingly normal people can lionize trump.

Trump will say "I am INNOCENT. Jan 6 was NOT an insurrection. SCOTUS has voted UNANIMOUSLY to make ME the PRESIDENT."

And about 33% of this country will believe him.
