Right, this behavior should be celebrated because who cares who it impacts especially this weekend of all weeks. Why should our kids feel safe going to school? It’s ok they don’t feel safe as long as your kids get to behave in a hateful way.

I don’t understand what exactly you want MCPS to do. They cannot stop every hate speech incident just like they cannot control every hallway fight or drug deals in the bathrooms.

Yes, they can. For the fights and drugs they can bring in more security and give consequences. They can put cameras in classrooms and hallways. Lots they can do. They choose not to.

I want all kids to go to school feeling safe.

I’m a teacher and no way would I be ok with cameras in the classroom. Would you want to be watched and recorded every second of your work day? And what would cameras even do? Students scribble stuff on desks all the time. It is usually harmless stuff. The cameras will not have laser vision where they pick up tiny writing on desks. You still would not be able to prove who wrote the offensive comment

Without having the camera pointed on that desk, you still would greatly narrow the pool of suspects and interrogate suspects from an informed perspective with camera surveillance. It increases your odds of finding the real culprit overall.

Interrogate suspects? Do you hear yourself?

The problem with this approach is there would be a lot of profiling of boys of color, kids with special needs and others who look "suspicious" for whatever biased reason the teacher or administrator has. At our younger DC's elementary someone vandalized part of the classroom. The teachers went around to the kids with special needs first, then some boys who were not white next, then the boys who were less than perfectly behaved and as you put it interrogated them - without their parents mind you. They had each of them give a handwriting sample based on nothing other than they didn't like these kids. It was a witchhunt. It turned out the culprit was a normally well-behaved and sweet girl. They would have never suspected her but they sent out a school wide email at some point and the girl confessed.

And, in our ES, they targeted the kids who they hated the parents, or who were white to set an example of them since there weren't very many and the principal was very racist. Camera's would solve some of these issues. My white kid got targeted a lot as we didn't agree with things with the school and wouldn't cave in as it wasn't in our child's best interests. So, our child was targeted and punished constantly. Only problem was the punishment was reading in the office and missing lunch and recess and they liked that so they asked me not to fight it as the lunchroom was chaotic and recess was boring.

We have cameras around our house and inside some areas. When we are gone, camera's go on.

Most employers, stores, restaurants and public places have cameras. Mcps, where it is important for safety does not. Even the county buildings have cameras.

These symbols are not harmless.

What do you have to hide?

Not true. Most employers don’t have cameras constantly recording the inside of offices.

Absolutely true.

You want all kids to go to school in a prison.

This has been a longtime fantasy of the far-right as part of their effort to destroy public education.

Wait, let me get this straight, the far right is responsible for the antisemitic behavior and the far right is responsible for not doing anything about it and the far right is responsible for increasing security at the schools?

I thought it was part of the "leftist agenda".

Well the far-right posters keep asking to make schools into prisons and add more prison guards.

Hogans Hero’s on every night and the do the salutes.

The first time the salute can be seen is in the Jacques-Louis David painting Oath of the Horatii created in 1784.

And the Germans were not the first to use it in the 20 century. The Italian army first used it

So perhaps the students are Italian?

An email went out to the school. Read the article.

To the school is different. Everyone should be aware and those kids should be suspended.

I think what the kids did was horrible. But do they have any 1st amendment rights?

Should we suspend them for saying they want to boycott Israel as well? What if openly they support Marine La Pen or Putin? Where do we draw the line? The Supreme Court would allow a Nazi salute based on the 1st amendment.

So, basically you are rationalizing why this is ok? On the most religious day in Judaism.

How is that helpful when there are incidents at multiple schools? These kids need consequences at school since parents failed them at home.
