Clarity. Work on it. |
They're too busy leveling the playing field and letting the rich buy their way in. Im sorry, it stinks. He sounds like a really great student and has a lot to offer. Makes me concerned for my kid in the next few years. |
400 years of white male privilege, and legacies by keeping it in the family. And on the backs of slaves. You know people like Mitch McConnell was able to go to Harvard because of the indirect privilege he got from his slave owning ancestors who had the wealth and power to get their kids to Harvard. Then BAM... legacy is born. |
Yeah, didn't think that through enough. Thanks. |
Make an argument here. If Harvard thinks applicants with a 1400 and 3.7 can do the work then they look at other factors. How are those students not qualified? |
If multiple posters think your circular statement makes no sense it’s time to look in the mirror rather than blame the reader. |
You don’t even need that to do the work at Harvard. If you can get into a T100 you can do the work at everywhere bar maybe MIT and Caltech. It’s about class mix and culture that AOs look for. |

Mainly just a venting post so bear with me but this is getting pretty ridiculous with the waitlists after the deferrals.. seems like so many of our kids are getting strung along. I, like many, have a kid hoping to major in CS. CS is his innate gift and he is truly gifted at it but these schools don’t seem to see that. He is accepted somewhere (definitely not top 50) so he is probably heading there but what on Earth is going on with all these deferrals and waitlists??? Who is getting in to these places?? He is a white male, 1580 SAT, UMC, straight A, multiple AP, highest rigor, multiple award winning, dedicated volunteer hours, write ups in magazines, articles in Wired… What else to they want? What planet are you on? Your child is NOT unique in regards metrics. I acknowledge genotyping uniqueness. At the top places there are more students with higher metrics than yours and not enough seats. These are the facts. Simple supply/demand economics. Entitlements are slowly diminishing in this educational ecosystem. In our grade inflation environment are you aware of the percentage of graduating classes with straight A averages? Perfect SAT scores? National prizes in math, physics, CS, chemistry, robotics? 30 to 40 percent of students at elite public schools are on the honor roll and 20 percent are carrying straight As. Given these numbers tell me why your child is more deserving than the others - many of whom are denied admission. Perhaps the top colleges should simply have a single major and course, namely, CS because this is your sons interest? |
| For all you “qualified”posters please show me on any Ivy League website a minimum GPA or SAT score. |
Does remind one of how demographics really demoralized an entire ethnic groups and races for over 200 years at the top tier US colleges! Perhaps now we can all relate to this and understand the pain. The irony is at least your child is allowed to compete. In the past, ones metrics did not even matter … pure demographics! |
So much irony. Even all these double legacies that get shut out. Bet the first one in the double went to their ivy with ONLY men. Probably half the population was not even applying to get into grandpa's class |
Defined “qualified”? Be specific Clue: Your progeny is not the correct answer. |
|
Define less qualified?
Be specific Clue: non-White is incorrect |
Perhaps let's not be this person. |
