I've read two of Lucy Foley's books but not that one. They were both pretty bad, so if you didn't like The Paris Apartment I'd say just steer clear of her altogether.

DP but did you try the audiobooks? I feel like I wouldn’t enjoy reading her books either, but as audiobooks they really work for me. I listen to them when I do boring chores around my house. Paris apartment wasn’t my favorite, but I liked guest list and hunting party quite a bit (all as audiobooks)

PP here. I did listen to both the Guest List and the Hunting Party on audible, and I generally listen when doing stuff around the house, walking/playing with the dogs, or relaxing before bed. I just found the plots annoying and stupid and I didn't like any of the characters. I figure two strikes with the same author is enough for me to decide that she's just not my thing. But I've loved books on here that others hated so clearly people just have different tastes and that's ok!

Chain gang all stars. Ugh. Just seemed performatively violent. I get that’s the point, but I don’t want to read only violence for 200 pages.

Yes, I listened to both The Guest List and The Paris Apartment on audiobook. I thought they were well read, but it was the plots I took issue with. Too many convenient coincidences to be believable. And none of the characters are even remotely worth rooting for.

Finnegan's Wake. It's a mess.

Dubliners is some of the most beautiful writing and storytelling ever. Ulysses is a boundary-pushing masterpiece. Finnegan's wake is a pile of garbage.

I came here just to see if anyone agreed with me. I could not get through one chapter. I love Barbara Kingsolver but this was a dud. Sorry I believed the hype and actually bought the hardback thinking I would pass it around. It's in good condition so I might re-gift it to someone at Christmas.

Ha! My kids love to remind me that I never finished Confederacy of the Dunces. I always finish no matter how bad the book but that one I decided life is just too short.

Came here to post Lincoln Highway. I loved his other two books but just could not get into this one.

I really pushed myself through this at the beginning because it was my book club book. About half way through I started to love it and am glad I finished it. If it wasn’t for my book club though, I’m sure I would have given up.

Same, and so glad to hear other people saying this. So disappointing because I was so looking forward to his next book.
