Are masks required for the meet your teacher night or for students going returning to school?

Confirmed. I just clarified with an ITDS teacher that all students are required to wear masks. We need to start a petition to at least make it optional. Or go to a different school, which sounds a million times nicer at this point.

ITDS families should all disenroll and enroll in their IB school this week.

Some MV parents started a petition but many people are too afraid to sign it because there are a few vehement pro maskers that will come after them.

Come after them and do what?

The admin should put it to a vote. An in-person vote.

Be obnoxious. Who knows. But they should do a vote. At least most other schools did that?

I'd love to see all of these hysterical anti-maskers do just that! Sadly not a single one will.

This absolutely should not be put to a vote. How ridiculous. School leaders shouldn't run and make operational decisions based on parent surveys. Leaders need to follow best practices and local public health guidelines and make a decision, even if it angers some people.

Isn’t that what they did? Made a decision, even if it made some parents angry.

Ugh. The pro-maskers are just too much. Like seriously hysterical and clincally anxious.

Nobody wants to be accused of being a fascist, hating the disabled, unconscionably careless of the immunocompromised, unethical, disease-spreading, etc, all stuff I’ve seen said recently by mask afficionados.

You realize that when removed from institutional and social pressure, the vast majority of people are not wearing masks now. Right?

So?

I also realize that most people are willing to abide by certain social contracts, like following rules the school sets. I didn’t see one person putting up a fuss at open house, despite the hysterics here. People on dcum are prone to such dramatics but irl most people aren’t so absurd.

my point is that there is a large silent majority that would happily unmask - and maybe is also very dissatisfied about it - but they don’t say anything because most people don’t want to put themselves at risk. The accusations about masks are absolutely toxic and I don’t blame parents not willing to speak up. That’s not a “social contract” - it’s repression.

All the kids at IT should be required to wear helmets in the classroom. It doesn't bother anyone and it would increase safety,

Absolutely. And no more recess - it’s a fall hazard. Kids should remain seated at all times.

Most kids aren’t really wearing masks at school (on their chin perhaps), and most teachers really don’t care and don’t want to mask themselves. So really just going to be a show.
