Serious question: what should all of the average citizens do about this? Is voting and political engagement enough?

Make sure you live in the right place for your situation, have a portfolio that protects you against being in the lower 50% wealth-wise but I would aim to be in the 75th %, make sure your children have access to a great education and you have enough funds to pay for their college (student loan debt will cripple a young person in this recession/depression), make sure you have health insurance and live in an area where the effects of the latest decisions are not emphasized (for example, I am an AA rom Texas. There is no amount of money you can pay me to move myself and my family back to where I came from. Maryland is where I will stay.) and make sure you stay on the good side of the law.

Voting and political engagement is not enough. I am convinced there are forces you cannot comprehend (nor I) that have already decided exactly what direction this country is headed and the course they put this country on for whatever reason will not or cannot be altered. Think Skulls, inner sanctum 1%' ers, and founding father's along with other groups like this around the world. If you look at the big picture and add all the things that go on in the world, it presents a sinister plot that is going on right now.
