Some of you are even running for office now and pretending to care about teachers in order to gain our votes. Not gonna happen. You may have won the hearts of some teachers, but the majority of us will never forget the things you all said and did the last two years. I agree with this. Either the person is paid to defend McKnight or the person has not been in a school this year or spoken to a teacher and/or principal. The defender seems so out of touch with the reality in the schools right now. I’d be okay if they mentioned that she was trying and shared some examples while actually also mentioning the flip side.

At the school I work at, 1/3 of the IEP case managers were never hired leaving the others with ridiculous caseloads. We never get substitutes and are pulled for coverage all day. The principal does not have permission to suspend students (that is correct- a principal needs permission!) so the disruptive students just run in the halls all day scaring the younger kids. There are full on fights in the halls and at recess but no extra staff to deal with it so the kids are just left to continue to disrupt and scare. Very few kids are at grade level, so teaching the grade-level curriculum is inappropriate so we have tears from students who actually want to learn. Teachers talk about quitting daily. It’s a mess. That’s the reality of MCPS right now.

I feel the exact opposite. I'm so tired of the same posters reshashing the same weak issues day after day in a new thread. They're so persistent and it's like a broken record. It's pretty clear they're obsessed with McKnight or simply paid to sew grievance with schools as they did in VA to serve their political ends.

What, you don't want to hear the truth? Many parents I know are saying this about in person with the fightings and behavior in MS and HS, especially.

Many kids are behind as they didn't participate last year and did the absolute minimum. They reduced the class time, took away homework and little accountability. Of course, many kids didn't learn as much last year.

Dr. McKnight needs to step up her game. She needs to hold students and parents accountable for the students behavior and hold school staff accountable for theirs. They need to bring homework back, especially in core classes, they need to bring back textbooks as some kids are visual learners, they need to fail kids who don't attend or do the work, etc.

The truth seems to be some posters can't accept that AA woman is running the school system.

Or the truth is that she doesn’t have the skills to run a large school system. That’s why 800 teachers are resigning.

She's doing a great job. She's setting priorities and following through. Teachers are quitting because they're burnt out after dealing the pandemic and some very unpleasant parents who demand the private school treatment.

You keep telling yourself that because it makes you feel better about being so wrong about the school closures.

But that's not what the teachers on this thread, or in social media, or in real life are saying. They are quitting bc of the in-class experiences they are having. Disruptive children. Unable to punish. Unsupportive principals/central office.

Listen to the teachers, instead of trying to believe something that just validates your own perspective

It's so obvious you're a parent that is part of the problem so YOU are the one projecting here. If you DID listen to teachers, you'd hear most of them saying parents are one of the main reasons they are leaving. You all spent the last year belittling us, berating us, and treating us like garbage because of decisions that were made that had nothing to do with us. It was disgusting and vile. Some of you are even running for office now and pretending to care about teachers in order to gain our votes. Not gonna happen. You may have won the hearts of some teachers, but the majority of us will never forget the things you all said and did the last two years. It is absolutely, without a doubt a HUGE reason teachers are leaving. I should know. I'm one of them...along with many of my peers. We all share the same sentiments. Please don't speak for us when you are the problem.

Another teacher here. Parents have been great. The problems are exactly as the other TEACHERS have stated. No teachers at my school support Dr. McKnight. Full stop.

There was a black man served as Superintendent at MCPS in the 80s or early 90s. Do you mean mean people in moCo became more racist after 20-30 years? I assume we can criticize anyone in leadership position in public office based on their performance. Did Jerry West, Joshua Start, or Jack Smith never receive any critics?
