Is the 22-23 Calendar designed to be an f-u to parents?

It isn’t your personal daycare center. It isn’t your personal babysitting service. You knew this when you decided to have children. And you made a choice. The state is not responsible for your children. You are. So do what the rest of us do. Figure it out.

Hallelujah. And those struggling single moms with 9-5 jobs five days a week?

- well they should just hire a nanny like the rest of us.

Besides, who really matters here is: the teachers union.

Now the bargaining unit will get some extra days (paid days) to sit around listening to anti-racism lectures (because teachers cannot figure out on their own how to not be racists).

There is no bargaining unit.

Well, everything in the PPs post above is incorrect - just another DCUM troll.

Go to School Board and click on Thursday's meeting. It is posted there. Someone else may have a link.

What are the ramifications of taking off Friday, 12/16 to start holiday travel a day early? Kid will be a 10th grader.

If FCPS wanted to F with you, they would go back to half-day Mondays. This schedule isn't bad.

I kind of agree. As a parent of a k and 2nd grader, I'd rather have this then an endless summer during which they can forget everything they learned over the past year.

I do wish there were more 5 day weeks. Structure is good for everyone and it might even help with all the learning loss resulting from past two years. Which we're not supposed to notice or acknowledge.

They miss whatever happens that day and they make it up. What do you think would happen if your kid was sick and had to miss a day?

Those elementary kids who have "specials" on Mondays are going to get shafted. So are their classroom teachers.

I guess what im asking is are there any issues with taking a"vacation day" the day before break in terms of unexcused absence vs excused absence? Is it simpler to just call in sick? We've never done an unexcused absence in ten years at FCPS.

It's horrible. And I expect we'll miss a lot of days the last week. I'm not keeping my kid in school until mid-June.

There should be no religious days at all, none. It's a public school. And don't talk about Christmas. Winter break between Xmas and NY is always going to happen for logistics, practical reasons having nothing to do with the holiday. But, IF they are going to add the days, then they need to shave them off somewhere else.

How nice. Wait until you have HS kids. Then you basically have 8 weeks of summer, or less. They have to start going back at the end of July for sports and activities. You'll be where we are in no time. And kiss your vacations goodbye.

Mom of 2020 graduate and rising senior and I also have memories of those awful early release Mondays that were just standard for decades. Want to talk about a scheduling nightmare if you weren't in SACC or some other similar aftercare?

This seems very dramatic for the fact they're basically shortening summer by 1 week.

Not really. that period before July 4 is basically most people (with older kids) free time in the summer. After that, green days start, then sports and other activities requiring them to be at the school. Not all of it is athletics. Plus orientation, etc. So, forget for summer travel and much true summer after that.

Now if your kid does no activities or you have little kids, this may not be true.

I expect we'll be missing some days in June, depending on test dates.

Three more years of this sh-- then Im done.
