What is the cut off score, I know it varies school to school but for the cogat and the naglieri it tends to be in the low 130's? We are in the West Potomac pyramid.
|
If they did admit fewer they wouldn't have enough to fill classes at some schools... like not centers, but locals definitely. I know they already do this, but it would be a big change for some schools in terms of funding. |
WHAAAAATTTT??? 138 is not in pool? That's ridiculous. Why have these kids take the test at all? And still waiting for our kid's score (not on SIS, no letter, etc) We were told today that we may not have the score by Dec 15th. |
That’s what we’re discussing. The one PP was told that a 138 was not in pool at their school. |
I was prepared fully for us not to have cogat scores by Dec 15. Meaning for none of us to have them. It would seem a bit unfair for some familes to have them up to a week before though and other after. |
At least a group of 5 kids (for example) at a high-performing school who all score 132 would be more stimulated in gen Ed than one kid who scores 132 at a lower-performing school and has no peer group. The kid in the lower-performing school has a greater need for differentiation in this scenario. That said, the parents of the kids at the high-performing school will probably self-refer and get in anyway. A bit less clear for the hypothetical FARMS kid at the lower-performing school whose parents may not speak English. Hence the need to make sure he’s in-pool. |
| Will you be ok if one of the kids from the group of 5 kids is your kid? |

After reading all the postings, I think I can conclude that cutoff score of in pool is higher than 138 from NNAT (surprising) OR 132ish from Cogat this year.
|
I don’t think this is universally true. It depends on your school. |
| It’s more than 138 in both cogat and NNAT. |
Can you please explain more on what the AART told you? She said the pool will be smaller than past years. Why is that so? |
Yes this doesn't make sense. I think technically there's some requirement that kids in the 99th percentile should be screened for advanced service. You should check. Could be your AART is new and doesn't understand how it works. If you feel comfortable sharing the school, you can find out if there are others from the school with a similar score that received the 'in pool' letter. At that range in the score, you are talking about one or two question difference (max 3) between 138 and 150 or even 160. Also, assuming you're talking about COGAT and not the NNAT. The NNAT was uncharacteristically high for those who took it in April 2021 (1st grade). I could see why 138 isn't "in pool" for NNAT, but not how 138 on COGAT isn't 'in pool'. The only other scenario is that 138 NNAT was combined with a low COGAT score, which means the child didn't make the pool due to two low scores (not that in pool is higher than 138 for both at this school). |

At this point since the deadline for referral is few days away, I would not worry about being in pool but preparing a referral packet for my child. All the best!
And yes, do find out why your 138 cogat is not in pool? I saw many parents posting of receiving pool emails even if their score was less than 138. |
| It’s local norms, people! The cut-off is different for every school. If you attend a high-SES elementary school the cut-off will be higher and your chances of being in-pool will be lower. |
