I just found out that Dr. Buek is leaving GT. I am 6 months pregnant and need to select a new dr. I like GT and despite many of the complaints others may have, I am going to continue with the practice.
I am looking for recommendations for who I should select for my primary dr. Some of the things I really liked about Dr Buek: I felt as if he kept on schedule I loved the flexibility of early morning appointments. I usually scheduled a 7:30 AM appt so that I was still at work on time (for both me and my husband) Easy to communicate with / nice bedside manner Does anyone have recommendations for other GT drs who have similar traits? Thanks for your input! |
Dr. Buek was also my doctor, but I've seen quite a few of the others. I like Dr. Breen and Dr. Colie. I've also heard good things about Dr. Gorman.
I too loved the early morning appointments--I don't know if the others also do these, but they have a good manner and have, in my experience, been reasonably on schedules. Why don't you ask Dr. Buek for a recommendation? |
I will be curious to see the responses as I used to see Dr Buek as well and will also have to find a new doctor. I am not pregnant at the moment (DD is 5 months) so I have some time to find someone new.
When I was pregnant the only other doctor who used to do early appointments was Dr Wulf, although I don't think she did hers as early as Dr Buek. I've had several 8 am's with her. She is competent (she was the one who ended up doing my emergency c/s and did a great job) but she is definitely not warm and welcoming. I have met with a few others in the practice and unfortunately they didn't measure up to Dr Buek as far as bedside manner is concerned. Dr Born was on call for part of my labor and seemed nice, but i have no experience with her for prenatal care. I must say that I am bummed that Dr Buek is leaving. |
Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone had any VBAC experience with any of the GU OBs other than Dr Buek? I am not pregnant yet but I think at this point would like to consider that option for a future pregnancy. Dr Buek told me he'd be supportive of trial of labor. Are there any drs at GU that are more/less VBAC-friendly? |
To the poster asking for recs for VBAC drs, not sure when you are planning your next pregnancy but Dr Buek will be back in a year. (at least that is what he told me when he shared that he was moving to a new position) |
I've been with Wulf out of no choice. If you're used to Buek, I'd recommend staying away from Wulf. She's very competent but her bedside manner is horrendous. I've heard great things about Breen, but she's hard to get an appointment with. I'm slowly trying to move over to Colie. My one appointment with her was really good. |
Colie was my OB for eight years. I really liked her as did friends of mine. She is extremely smart and competent and also has a great bedside manner. She has a good sense of humor and does a good job of putting the patient at ease. On the negative side, I usually did have to wait for a pretty long time to see her, but then again anytime I scheduled a doc. appointment for 9:30 am or later at Gtown, I ended up waiting forever - no matter which OB/gyn I was seeing. Colie did not end up delivering my daughter, so I can't speak to how she would be in a delivery, but if you stay with Gtown it's luck of the draw as to what doc you get when you deliver. This is why I quit the practice after delivering my daughter and not liking either of the two docs who were there during my labor/delivery. |
Breen and Colie are both very experienced and have great bedside manners, but neither are ever as "on schedule" as Buek. (Breen is slighly better than Colie in this regard. Colie has been my doctor for 12 years and I have waited over an hour on more than one occasion! Bu I stick with her because I just really like her, despite my husband's protests and his frequent complaining in the waiting room!) Gorman is nice too, and keeps better to the schedule. I don't love Bowles-Johnson (she seemed kind of cold to me), but I do know people that like her, and now that Buek is gone, I would say she is the most on time of all the doctors in the practice. |
16:14 PP here. Wulf is usually on time, too, and I haven't had to wait more than 15 minutes tops to see her. Question to 21:40 PP: Do you recall the names of the doctors who delivered your daughter? Any particular reasons why you didn't like them? I'll be delivering and GUH and am curious. Thanks. |
14:32 PP here. I also didn't care for Bowles-Johnson, she was actually rude to me at the one appointment I had with her, but my SIL had her as her main OB during her pregnancy and was really pleased.
There is a new dr in the practice - it's a long last name beginning with M. Has anyone met with her yet? |
21:40 poster here (responding to the 16:14 poster). Udwin was there for the first part of my labor and Wulf ended up delivering me. I'm pretty sure Udwin is gone now. I originally didn't mention Wulf, because I felt like she'd received enough negatives in this string, but (like others) I did not like her bedside manner, thought she was way too interventionist for me, and was entirely too focused on telling me that my labor was taking entirely too long - thus I needed a C-section. Everyone has different approaches and I'm not a doc, but I feel like everyone is different and every labor is unique. My baby's vital signs were good and I was fine with laboring naturally until she came along on her own. Wulf just kept pushing interventions (pitocin mainly) that I didn't want and saying a lot of scary things to back up her arguments. All of that said, I ended up with a C-section (which I still have misgivings about), and she did a very good job (at least as far as I can tell - my recovery was fast at least and the scar healed quickly). Good luck to you at Gtown, and again, Colie is absolutely great. I ended up with a very healthy baby and had very good care from the nurses there. |
Thanks, 21:40 PP. It's the luck of the draw in terms of who's on call, I guess. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.
Happy New Year, everyone! |
I started this thread and just wanted to share where I am with the GT practice right now.
Some of this is hormonal - so please bear with me ![]() I am now 38 weeks pregnant. Since Dr Buek left I have had waits that are ridiculous. Last week I waited over and hour and a half for Collie and wound up NEVER seeing her. When in the waiting room I asked the receptionist twice how later Collie was running. She had told me she would go and find out. I had to stand in front of the desk to get an answer because the 1st time I asked, she never got an answer for me. (note: I asked 45 minutes after my schedueld appointment time so that my husband could make a decision if he was to wait around or get back to work). I really do not know why they have the sign posted "If you are waiting more than 15 minutes please see someone at the front desk." Finally after waiting an hour, I was called and went to the examination room. After waiting in the examiniation room for 30 minutes, they sent the NP in to examine me. If I wanted to see the NP, I could have done that without the 1st hour of wait. I just tried to make an appointment 2 weeks from now for my weekly appointment and there are NO appointments available. How do you manage a office when you have people who need to see a dr every week and not have appointments available? After I deliver I will be looking for a new practice. I will also be sharing with the GT practice my disappointment with how the practice is being run. Unfortunately, I really do not think they care. |
OP, thanks for the update. I haven't been back since early fall (not pregnant at the moment obviously), so it's helpful to see where things are. I am not too surprised about the long wait times, that was the situation already when I was pregnant last year, but I think it is absolutely unacceptable to not have appointments available! That is just outrageous and really makes me re-think going there in the future.
Good luck and hope you have a wonderful delivery. When you find another practice that has better wait times and cares more about their patients, please come back and update us. |
I don't know if you are considered high risk, but I see Dr. Bolan at GT and have been very pleased with her. She is kind of no-nonsense and blunt, which is something I like. Other people may prefer someone who is "softer" for lack of a better term. She starts seeing patients at around 9am for most days at PHC in GT. Collea is also pretty good. |
