I really need to get this under control - I have tried so many things - what about probiotics? Any recommendations for one that is good and would help?
Preferably one that does not have to be refrigerated since I travel a lot! Thanks. |
| For home you should eat the Activia yogurt. For travel you can do culturelle...it comes in little packets. |
| Activia makes me poo like its my job. |
|
OP here - my bowels are like asleep or something. I could eat active with prunes and flax seeds and I still wouldn't poop!
I've been like this my whole life..... |
Start taking Miralax daily. It's safe for daily use even for children. Wouldn't hurt to see a GI for a eval too. |
| I second the Miralax. Nothing makes me poop anymore, but this stuff does. I don't even need it everyday. |
| Wheat grass. Lots of water. Start running. |
| My daughter was just diagnosed at Johns Hopkins with chronic constipation. They first suggested cleaning out her system with a combination of ducolax pills (4) followed by 64 ounces of gatorade mixed with 8 capfuls of Miralax. She is now on daily maintenance Marilax (1 capful to 8 oz of fluid). It seems to be working.... |
| I was like you. Until I started taking a tablespoon of psyllium powder every day. It will really get you on track. |
|
My gi doc has me doing benefiber every day. Two teaspoons, two times/day. Ideally just in water but you can put it in food too. I eat oatmeal every morning so I just mix it in there. Then later in the day I take it in a glass of water.
Anyone else suffering from anal fissure due to chronic constipation? I've been treating for that for almost 3 weeks now and feel like I've made zero progress. |
| I take the Pearl probotics. My problems tend to go the other way, but I believe the purpose of them is to get your gut in balance. I've personally found them to help (I believe I read that they were one of the few that didn't have to be refridgerated and were good quality). |
| I read that the probiotic should read that the product is guaranteed through the entire shelf life (e.g. 5 billion CFUs for the entire shelf life vs. "at time of manufacturing"). Also, Op have you tried examining your diet? Eliminating some common allergens? Gluten and soy can cause constipation. My sister has the same issue with chronic constipation. For her being gluten free provides relief except she won't stick with it because she doesn't want to give up certain foods. To compensate she takes a supplement called CKLS, makes her move like every time. http://www.newbodyherbsonline.com/new-body-products-ckls-colon-kidney-liver-spleen/?gclid=CMvr2dyj9K4CFeJe7AodJ0mgLA. I have tried it for the occasional problem and it works, but I wouldn't want to rely on any product daily. |
| My daughter drinks Miralax and also drinks Glen Oaks Probiotic. We buy it at Safeway in a 32oz jug. Works great! |

OP here - this is all great advice!
I ended up taking laxatives - because I was desperate (more than usual) for 2 nights in a row which really helped. Since that time I have been taking miralax every night (thanks to the advice on this board) - and have had good success although it hasn't worked yet today. But I am going to stick with it and see if I can get on track. Any other advice is more than welcome!! Thanks |
| Im in the same boat. I've tried all of the things listed above, even Miralax. I have to take a laxative about 2x a week to go, otherwise I start feeling toxic. Going to see Dr. to check it out. Will let you know what he says. |
