| Same issue entire life. Recently learned I was intolerant to gluten and a few other foods, hoping cutting them out will help. Worth a try looking into it. I can go weeks with not going. |
| Prunes, attune chocolate bar and activia yogurt. Doesn't anyone else feel swelling after taking miralax? It's too uncomfortable for me. |
I third this. We tried all kids of probiotics for DS, but none of them really made any difference. You may also want to try giving up cow's milk, including cheese, yogurt, etc. for a while and see if that makes a difference. |
| My mother has chronic constipation and ended up taking a probiotic, Florastor, for issues from antibiotics. Miralax was her go-to prior to finding Florastor. It has literally changed her constitution. Costco has the best pricing for it, though Target isn't too bad. I have used it periodically and it does work. |
| OP, try some raw sauerkraut (they sell a few types at whole foods). The cabbage itself is good for moving things along, and the fact that it's fermented (and not pasteurized) makes it like a probiotic. Just make sure it says "raw". (PS it's pretty tasty too!) |
| I have this issue and I've tried a bunch of different probioitics. They all work for a bit and then they stop. I've gone to the dr, had a colonoscopy and I just have "slow transit." I just take Colace every night before bed. Miralax makes me bloat and have painful gas. |

I really enjoy the information sharing in this blog.
I was searching forces probiotic that helped with constipation and was brought to this spot. I felt very encouraged until I read about Miralax use. Being an old retired RN, I find myself researching Meds every now and then. While on Miralax, I felt odd. I can't even put my finger on exactly what it was that was disturbing for me. I guess I would say my thoughts were off.. my head felt thick. I am drug sensitive so decided to see what Miralax was made of. I always assumed in was a complex sugar. Well, it isn't. Miralax is polyethelene glycol. That is the same family as antifreeze, which is also sweet. Please, please all of you google "Is Miralax the next Vioxx". I was blown away at how dangerous this OTC drug is. It is lethal to some and life alternating to others. I have been angry at the FDA for how easily meds get approved, ESP over the last couple of decades. The big drug companies end up paying millions for damages (deaths) and then all allowed to continue making the same drug. Have you heard the side effects to many popular meds on TV ads? Since when is "liver failure, cardiac death and renal failure" considered a side effect? We all believe if something is approved, we are safe. We are not. I would still be in Miralax had I not researched it because it worked great. But I could tell it was affecting me in a way that was not good. Thank God I checked. I now pass the word on when I see people are taking it without realizing the dangers. Living creatures are not meant to consume polyethelene glycol. Please google "is Miralax the next Vioxx". You will never use it again. I have zero agenda here outside of trying to inform people of a danger that I am aware of. There will be a class action lawsuit behind Miralax at some point. Don't be in it. Read and share what you have learned. Don't let the big pharmaceutical companies and the FDA be so unbelievably neglectful. Thank you for reading.. kabownds@yahoo.com |

PP I agree about the anti-freeze garbage, and it doesn't work after a while anyway.
I have chronic constipation and now am on prescription drugs--I don't think dynamite would work at this point! Still need to find out why my gut stopped moving things along, but it may be due to my EDS. |

My GI doc recommended Align, Florastor, and the FODMAP diet from Monash University in Australia:
