"best" wedding/shower favor you have ever gotten

Anonymous
really looking for good ideas, but will also be amused by bad favors...

the worst one i got was an obviously expensive silver tray (5inchesX5inches) engraved with the name of the couple (everyone got one). i was 23 at the wedding (the bride and groom were a year or so younger). what on earth was i going to do with an engraved silver tray with someone else's name on it?

one of the best was chopsticks from a chinese friend of mine who married a white american man - i thought it was a nice nod to her heritage.

I don't know that I've ever seen a good favor that wasn't a waste of money.

As a thank-you gift for being part of the wedding party my SIL had cosmetic bags custom-made for each of us. That was lovely.

Best: small ceramic bell, handcrafted & decorated in Puebla, Mexico (groom was mexican)
Worst: mesh bag of those chocolate- and candy-coated pastel almonds

Best: green camo-patterned beer coozie with couple's names, wedding date, and a deer head with a target on it, all in hunter's orange.

Worst: See above.

If you're going to waste money on craptastic favors, go all in.

I have never actually gotten this, but have read about handing out $1 scratch off lotto tickets as favors. I think those would be a hit, because whatever you give just gets thrown away anyways...at least before throwing the favor away, people would have a chance to win a few bucks. You could attach a little note like, "Best wishes from the new Mr and Mrs _____"

For our wedding we had MMs in clear boxes and wild flower seeds in a sisal pouch. Everybody loved it!

I love that someone mentioned a beer coozie, that's what we did...but ours weren't camo.

Worst: small silver picture frame with the couples' name engraved on it at a coworker's wedding.

Best: frisbee.

Sorry hit submit too soon...

And we got lovely pictures from people who planted them. They bloom quickly so within a few months we had several pictures. Lovely!

Best: forget-me-not thank you note. There were seeds in the note and you could bury it and get flowers!

Worst: I can't compete! The PP's are pretty funny.

We had sugar cookies with white chocolate frosting in the shape of a pug. Everyone loved them. When in doubt go with food or save your money. No one wants crap with your name on it! Worst favors we got were chapsticks and notepads with couples names and wedding date. Best gift I got for being in a wedding was pearl earings. I got my bms amethyst bracelets and little survival bags with needle and thread, sticky tape, deoderent etc that fits in your purse. Worst gm gift my husband got was a glass mug with his initial. Cracked 4 months later. Its easy to get sucked into the wedding industrial complex.... think about what you would like to receive or actually use.

Best: small silver frame used as place markers. (Fancy wedding, nice frame, but I still don't use it.) Nothing else that I've ever received has made it back to my house - it's all just strange or trash or forgettable.

I've NEVER been to a wedding and wondered "ooh, what will the favor be?" No one will notice if you skip it.

No favor is the best.

Sure they did. That crap would go right into the garbage.

Oh, god. Are you one of those people who treats your pet like a person?

Wow, I cant remember any wedding favors and the last wedding we attended was last May.

For our destination wedding the people who flew in got a baskets with mini version of various food items that are local to the country and the the locals got a small ceramic (we did not personalize them). We wanted to skim favors put our parents revolted so that was out compromise. Our guests told us they were pleased, but I guess they could have been lying.
