Why stay in DC when none (yes, including upper NW schools) seem to compare to Arlington?????????????

The discussion I started below ended up to have been moved to a different forum apparently, but I am still struggling with the issue of DC Public Schools v. Arlington Schools, so this subject should remain on this FORUM. If a mom is trying to figure out whether to stay in DC after living here for over 10 yeards, or whether to move to Arlington for the seemingly better, this should be the forum, no?

I still don't understand why, if Arlington school sare better..why do people still stay in DC? The architechure? The history? The politics?? Location, location, location.......What is it? Why stay in DC when none (yes, including upper NW schools) seem to compare to Arlington????????????????

We love our DCPS elementary school

My learning disabled ADHD kid LOVES going to school every day

b/c the charter we are in has a teacher and a teaching fellow in every classroom making the student teacher ratio much less than what Arlington offers.

b/c I like walking to work

Because I don't want to live in Arlington!

Why do you think the schools are better in Arlington? Just because everyone in Arlington says that? I dont think it's actually true. From what I hear, the schools in Arlington are overcrowded and have many of the same issues as dcps.

We looked in Arlington when we moved to the area. We knew right away that we could never bring ourselves to live there. The people and schools were great, but it was not for us. Different strokes.

Oh my god, lady, you've clearly made up your mind. Stop clogging up the DC board wth this. Move to VA already!

Because I don't want to live in a state that passes laws that interfere with my medical rights and wishes.

Because I like my neighborhood and am not obsessed with test scores.

I can't take you seriously until you can manage your pharmaceuticals.

By all appearances, you are entirely without any ability to self-regulate. And, you're so fixated on a subject that doesn't necessarily affect you. Save your life and normalize.

Either you're using too much, and you don't realize you've lost control? Or perhaps you're in withdrawal, and you don't even realize how out-of-control you sound.

Whatever. Just get control of your drug problem honey. You're not in any position to be criticizing anyone. Be safe.

Arlington doesn't have Chinese immersion school. DC does.

This is hilarious! All of it, the original post and all the answers. Like I was saying to a friend recently...lots of crazy mommies in the DCUM!

Many places have, on the whole, better schools than DCPS. For us, it's local: we love our charter. We aren't going to have it in Arlington or MoCo.

Which school are you in-bounds for? Have you tried the OOB lottery or loOking into charters? And if you don't have kids, have you even been inside a DC school? What are you do afraid of?
