Hi there. We have a DC who turned 2 this past December. We think he might be in need of more of a preschool setting than a daycare setting. But from reading this forum it seems like we're too late.
Are there any preschools in DC that are still accepting applications for the fall? |
People may post later this spring about schools that still have space after admissions are over. In the past, I've seen Spring Valley Montessori not be able to fill its classes.
I heard that Franklin 2s may still have slots. Give them a call.
Montessori School of Chevy Chase may still have a slot in its 2s room for the fall. They are also pretty open to transitioning 2-year olds into the primary rooms when they are ready . . . usually at 2.5 or older. Since your child will be just a few months shy of his/her 3rd birthday, this may also be an option.
Where do you live? I got an email the other day that Cedar Lane in Bethesda has openings (it's a co-op).
OP here - thanks for the info. We're in the district but looking for FT programs. We totally missed the boat on this and didn't know there were applications and timelines and LSATs and other things that make this whole thing seem like a college application. Looks like we're stuck in daycare for another year. It's not a bad place, it's just that he switched into a new room recently and the teachers have no control and he is not getting what he needs.
Oneness Family School usually has openings.
Children's House of Washington may be another option. They're in Georgetown.
OP don't be discouraged. Please call around. WLs move and many directors will just give you a spot because you are persistent and are calling at a time when many families have already committed elsewhere.
OP, I would check on Franklin if there are still spots, I believe the 2 year old program is now full time (ie, until 6:00 pm or thereabouts). You still would have to deal with spring/winter/summer break, though.
My Kids Bloom (www.mykidsbloom.com) is opening in June and I believe still taking applications. The school year program is specifically for 2s/3s. It's in-home but runs as a preschool, not daycare. Very intimate setting/hands-on learning.
The Community School of the Palisades may be looking at adding an afternoon program, in response to overwhelming demand. That could be worth looking into.
the dc jcc is full time and has rolling admissions and a first come first served wait list. you might not get in for this year, but a space could open in the summer and at least you'd be on the waitlist for next year.
Would discourage DCJCC. If you search for prior threads you'll see that parents have been on the WL since January 2011 for the Fall 2012 2s class. So that would likely be a waste of money.
I heard that Broad Branch Children's House is opening up a new classroom in the Fall.
