The whole thing reads reads like a Civ Pro final exam question.

If the Civ Pro exam question was drafted by the script writers for Ancient Aliens.

The attorneys did not sign the document.

Sure they did. It is signed by Lindsey Halligan, James Trusty, and Evan Corcoran on page 21.

Actually, it was signed electronically. Their names are typed. I wouldn't be shocked if Trump just write their names in.

I truly feel sorry for the judge who has to deal with this.

Trump apparently released a statement. Seems like he's never heard of a special master before, which is surprising given the amount of litigation he's been involved in. He seems to think if one is appointed then they are on Team Trump, which will be interesting.

Evan Corcoran is a partner in his firm (the Baltimore firm with the name Slutkin in it which is the only name I remember) and was an Assistant US State’s Attorney. Why he wants to besmirch his formerly good name is an interesting question to me.

JFC - his mention of the future Donald J Trump library and museum. Can you even imagine such a place?!

He had the OANN lady sign the letter to DOJ saying that Trump gave them everything, so there was only so much besmirching he was up for.

Somehow I don’t think “I just wrote and let someone dumber than me sign it and give it to the FBI” is going to be a great defense to the coming false statement charges.

Non lawyer here. Can someone provide an update to what's going on in language a non lawyer can understand? Thanks!

In the official search warrant proceeding, several news outlets and other organizations have filed motions to unseal the affidavit supporting the warrant. DOJ has objected to the unsealing, and Trump has not appeared in that proceeding to express a view on the issue. The court said it would most likely agree to unseal the affidavit but it could be so heavily redacted (for sensitive information that should not be disclosed publicly at this time) that it would be all but useless. DOJ now has to submit proposed redactions to the affidavit for the court to consider.

Trump has separately filed a stunningly incompetent new action to challenge the search warrant and ask for a special master to be appointed to review all of the documents taken from mar-a-lago for privilege before they are given to the prosecutorial team. There are many problems with this, including that the motion should have been filed in the search warrant proceeding and not in a separate proceeding, what he filed was procedurally defective in so many ways that the there is no way a real lawyer had any hand in preparing (people are speculating that Trump forged his attorneys’ signatures and filed it himself), reflects an apparent belief by Trump that he is currently still the president and not a former president, and is too late anyway because he waited two weeks to file this and the taint review process he claims would be inadequate is probably already complete.

Re the above, if the non-lawyers have more specific questions or are wondering about things not addressed above, I am happy to try to answer. I just didn’t want to write a novel in the first post.
