My DD is having some health issues that may be related to a dairy sensitivity, so we're going to try going dairy-free for a few months to see if she improves. However, she loves her cheese, milk, and yogurt! Where is the best place to buy dairy-free versions of these foods? Whole Foods? Are there any brands you can recommend?
Thanks. |
| My son loves the coconut milk yogurt at whole foods. (he can't have soy either.). When I was nursing him, I found vanilla almond milk a good sub in my cereal. Neither of us ever liked the dairy and soy free cheeses, though the soy based ones are supposed to be better if soy isn't an issue. WF also has coconut milk ice cream treats that are pretty good. |
| WF has the widest range of dairy-free options -- ice cream, cream cheese, yogurt, and cheese in singles, blocks and shreds. Trader Joe's has soy yogurt in individual servings but the other stuff is hit-or-miss. Giant carries a dairy-free frozen pizza for crazy nights but that's about it. You can get organic soy milk anywhere, including Target. |

This can be a real challenge but good for you for making this effort for your daughter! When choosing dairy-free options just be aware of all the additives and preservatives as they can be truly over processed and unhealthy. Coconut milk is a great option as it is pure and extremely healthy. I'm not sure if you're into making things at home but almond milk is easy to make and hemp milk even easier! Finally, coconut milk kefir is a seriously delicious and healthy option for everyone. The process of making this is super simple but a little more involved. Cultures For Health is a great website for learning how to do this. Here is their site:
