Help! I accidentally ruined my husband's skillet/frying pan - overwhelmed by choices to replace it!

it was a the "go to" pan for everything, but I don't cook (obviously) so I am not sure what type of pan to get for him - a skillet, a frying pan or an omelet pan? What is the difference?

I feel really bad and want to replace it, what would you all recommend, in the moderate (<$100 price range)?

What type of pan is it... non-stick, copper etc.

It would help to know what type you ruined.

But without that I'd highly recommend a 12" blue steel pan. You can find one at Sur La Table in Pentagon City or La Cuisseine in Old Town. It is a great go to pan.

Once you properly season it (directions are usually included) it will be non-stick. We use ours for everything. I love cooking with it. Don't use soap to wash it (water and a sponge) and rub it with oil after you clean it. It will continue to season with each use. I actually thought my husband had ruined the pan trying to season it because it turned brown, but that's what you want.

OP here - no idea what kind of pan it was, all I know is that it was non-stick and not a cast iron skillet.

I killed it by putting it in the dishwasher, if that helps?

If he is the cook, he should pick it.

I'm the cook of the house and I would not want someone who knows nothing about cooking to buy me a "go to" pan.

Just ask him what he wants. Or take the pan, if you still have it, to Sur La Table, Williams-Sonoma, etc. and ask for their recommendation. Amazon.com also has a huge selection and very reasonable prices.

Go shopping with him and let him pick it out! Heck, I'd love it if my husband ruined one of my pans and then I got to buy a new one!
