From what I have read, MCPS hasn't done much to facilitate a safe a school environment for Kennedy students. Rather than address severe deficiencies in safety and facilities, the solution can't be to send some of the Tilden community there? How does that fix these serious issues with drugs and violence?

No child should wonder if walking into their MCPS school could mean it's their "last day alive." We shouldn't want this for any of our kids and hateful comments like the one of above are not productive to the conversation.

MCPS should focus on bringing the level of all schools up with zero compromises on safety. Not bussing kids around so that their numbers look better on paper.

This article is terrifying. Why are grown men going into Kennedy to jump students? And no this doesn’t happen at all mcps high schools. News flash: busing Tilden kids over to Kennedy isn’t going to solve that security issue (which is unacceptable to begin with).

Actually it does.

No, those of us doing well and aren’t materialistic often don’t care. We have our needs, most wants within reason and know we are fortunate. I would love my home to go down in price so my property taxes go down. We are in the dcc. We choose it as we wanted a more down to earth community. We could move but choose to stay.

This is at every school. Be real. And, if folks are so concerned we should be diverting ore money to this school to fix things. But, that would take away money from other schools.

No it’s not at every school. Not what these kids are talking about. This sounds like more of a police matter but agree that mcps needs to spend a lot more on security, starting with the schools that have the most serious incidents and lock downs.

That is complete nonsense.

How is it hard to believe? We choose to live differently than you. I love not worrying about money as we live under our means. I don’t care about designer stuff, big houses etc. If you do, great. Enjoy.

Only a crazed society allows this kind of violence in its public schools with ZERO consequences for the perpetrator.

If that’s the case, then we don’t need to bus anyone anywhere. All set - option 1.

We can blame the BOE and Dr. Taylor as these things are happening under their leadership and no one is holding them accountable. The County Council is above them, but they do nothing too. Most of their kid are in privates, or they don't have kids in MCPS so they don't care as it doesn't impact them and they cannot see it with their 10 minute photo opps to schools. And, they ignore testimony from students, teachers and parents.

I don't think we should be bussing BUT I think we should do more to give equal opportunities at every school. I don't want my kids bussed out of the DCC. We choose it for a reason.

Deal with it. We worked hard and prioritized education to succeed. DCC families are ok with mediocre schools.

It is so evil to be concerned about sudden drop in your home value.

Out of touch?

People with excess wealth are the ones on here fretting about $2M homes going down in value.

Listen, Option 3 definitely isn’t going to happen. But this little round of catastrophizing does look like it’s opened people’s eyes to the fact that yes, our county school population is majority minority and about half low-income. Our public schools are increasingly going to show that, and there won’t be many islands of rich whiteness in the future.
