It was always the most logical explanation, especially once it became known it was an overnight thing. I was surprised at how many people bought into these wild ex-businessman theories.

I have some personal insight from my time working as a bank teller on the accessibility to cash, and why he would have been making so many calls.

Nevermind people, most banks don't hold a substantial amount (like <25K max) of cash on a daily basis with two exceptions -
1. Someone has given them advance notice that they're going to need to take a large cash distribution and the bank can "order" the cash to accommodate the request.
2. Fridays aka paydays, but even then, with a delivery that morning, we probably only got an extra 10K in the bank because generally the people coming in to cash checks are not the most highly paid or they'd have direct deposit.

Also, I know most people think there's a huge safe in the back, I've seen bigger wine fridges that the size of safes you'd usually see in a bank.
