This is DCUs selfish and sneaky way of getting back to pay to play which it only gave up because it had to if they were going to stay compliant with MLS rules. There is no other academy in the country that makes the players pay for their schooling if they are full time. Again, this is just a money game for DCU. Has nothing to do with the development of the players or the success of the players. Just whether the academy can spend less money and/ or make some money. And let's be honest, if you had every kid in the academy paying for school, that's about 250k per team, which means about a million bucks. This is what DCU is trying to save. Shows you how sad the financials are there if they can't swing that for the academy. DCU can't be taken seriously as an academy and it has time and time again proven that as an organization it is completely inept.

Interesting that DCU missed out on 6 local players in the past 60
Days who got scooped up from under their nose to Texas and New England teams who have built relationship with coaches in DMV. Guess their relationships aren’t that great? Why are all the local boys from VDA, Arlington and every other ECNL club going elsewhere?

Damn, I'm complaining about club fees as it is, I can't imagine having to shell out 10k so my kid can play on DCUA. NO THANKS.

Phillys former academy players...just look at the market value alone.

These are all Philly Academy players who were developed there for 5 years or more before going professional?

Very few are at Division 1 clubs in Europe.
That's the standard.

Is it? Also, I hope you realize this is a terrible argument to make now that players literally can't be at DC United for 5 years before deciding between college or pro. If you have a development process at all, you don't start at U15. With no younger age groups the "academy" is just basically an aggregation of local talent so they can hope to gain control of players' rights. I'm surprised the league allows it.

U think starting at u13 or u14 at another MLS academy makes it not a aggregation of talent already developed at grassroots clubs from U6?

FC Delco sending kids to Philly for U14 and U15 and U16 is what?

Of course academies add players but it's not ALL they do. Both of the closest other MLS Academies start much younger than U15, Red Bull at U10, Philly at U12 (with an additional "juniors" program down to U9).

And thank you for pointing out another area of deficiency for DCU Academy vs. its two closest peers: relationships with local clubs. Both of them have real relationships with other clubs. Philly has a partnership with Delco and I believe NYRB with Ironbound and maybe others. DC's relationship with the clubs is, in some cases, adversarial, and they don't have any real partnerships.

Maybe a big issue is with their affinity for players from VDA and Arlington. Both in ECNL, and both in the terrible Mid-Atlantic Region—think big fish in small pond.

Agree with you. DCU is not a serious organization and they definitely aren't serious about your kid. DCU is about one thing...making money. As stated here before, they don't believe the academy is a money maker for them. It is just the cost of doing business in the MLS. That means that all decisions are through this lens. The decision to make parents pay for the school makes sense if you look at it through DCUs lens.which is how can we reduce costs at every step of the way. Same with cutting the u14 team. All about reducing the overall costs. This is why the academy will never be good and why the kids that are in the academy are getting a poor experience and even less development.

DCUs affinity with clubs derives from how much they play ball with them and how much DCU can manipulate them. In addition to personal relationships between the two clubs. VDA and Arlington will do just about anything DCU says. Bethesda won't for instance. The more you play ball and become DCUs subordinate basically, the more your clubs players get involved. Another massive flaw in DCUs system and how it scouts players. You can't have an establishment, old school, good old boy, doing things the same way it's always been done, scout running things. Which DCU has. When you have this, you have a player pool that isn't the best players, it is just who has worked the relationships and system the best. Which is again, what DCUs player pool is.

Not trying to disrespect TSF...the bench players should be able to beat non-academy as well.

Facts. But the winning and losing doesn't really.matter. What is obvious is that the teams at DCU aren't learning anything and they play a brand of football that is rudimentary and basic. The other teams they play, both MLS academies and non MLS academies look FAR better in terms of what they are learning and trying to do on the field. It is clear that DCU is completely failing these kids AND making the parents pay 10k a year! Oh hell no!!!

Do you really think the online school costs DCU 10k per person?? It doesn't. At most, it costs them half of that. The rest is earnings. They have demanded 10k from the parents for the schooling as a way to circumvent charging them for the academy which is what they want to do in the first place. DCU is literally a joke.
