I heard on NPR that the "no more than one gun purchase a month" law that's about to be repealed was passed because VA used to be a notorious source of guns for drug lords and other criminals up and down the East Coast.
And there's also another law that has a good chance to pass that would allow people to carry concealed weapons without a permit. Yippee! ![]() So, how worried should I be about me or my family getting shot, say, after a fender bender or an argument in the supermarket checkout line? |
Really? It's about as likely as the Mayan prediction thatthe world will end in 2012. |
It's pretty unlikely. All the studies I have read suggest that people who own and carry guns legally commit violent crimes at vastly lower rates than the general population. Seriously, suppose you had a gun, and were involved in a fender bender. Would you just blast away? Of course not. So, too, for those who carry guns. They are human beings, much like you. The supermarket checkout line is a somewhat different issue, of course, I'd bust a cap if someone had 10 items in the 8 item express lane, I mean, who wouldn't? That's just Darwin at work. |
I'd worry much more about places where people are drinking and/or getting high. I've encountered enough angry drunks to know that I don't want to be anywhere near one who's armed. |
Don't be ridiculous. You don't shoot someone for having 10 items. You shoot them if any of the items is not organic and locally sourced. Because buying Chilean grapes is just wrong. |
Back off. Uh oh, its about to get real here in the Whole Foods parking lot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UFc1pr2yUU |
Laws prohibit carrying of weapons in bars... the saying "check your guns at the door" came from this age old policy. The people who carry guns into bars now will be same people who carry them into bars later. law-abiding citizens who dont, still wont. |
