FCPS is turning the new high school purchased to fix crowding into an Aviation magnet school instead of a high school??

Yeah, no. I earned a PhD and the title associated with my degree is Doctor. It is different than an MD but still earned.

That's like expecting everyone to call someone "Chief Executive Officer Mary" because they earned it somehow. Why do you think anyone should value the title some organization gave you over titles any other organization hands out? Oh look, it's "Eagle Scout Vance" and "Assistant to the Regional Manager Schrute." Titles for everyone!

You sound really, really uneducated.

You sound really, really pompous.

I don't care enough about this to figure out which poster is uneducated and which one is pompous, but it's been common around here to refer to educators who've received a doctorate as "Dr." for a long time. It's hardly some new honorific that arrived in FCPS with Michelle Reid.

Yeah every superintendent going back as far as I can remember (Jack Dale) was referred to as Dr. This is nothing new.

FACT CHECK: Just did a search of Fairfax County Public Schools Forum (on DCUM). Typed in "Jack Dale." Pages of messages without Dr.

Dp, I generally agree with the poster who said they only us Dr for medical doctors, but there are other specific positions and professions where using the Dr title is common. Superintendent is one of them. I grew up in a western state where our Superintendent was definitely referred to as Dr too.

It may not be necessary to use the title on a message board like this, but it's not new or unusual *in general* to refer to a Superintendent with a doctorate by the title Dr.

Him being referred to with Dr doesn’t mean he was also not referred without Dr.

This is not the “FACT CHECK” you think it is.

Not the weirdo who wants us to put Dr. in front of Reid.

There are some slides (13-18) posted in the boundary discussion PPT regarding the new Western HS. Most notably, construction/renovation in the main building is not proposed to start until January 2028.

More files - they plan to ask students to enroll 6 months before deciding boundaries. Is there an adult in the room??

Oh, there are adults. The problem is that they take their inspiration from Kafka and Escher, rather than normal parents.

Oh shut it, I'm the one who posted the board docs to the other thread for you to post here, so you should be thanking me, sweetie.

Anonymous wrote:I predicted that Westfield would lose 1,000 students if Floris, McNair, and Coates move to KAA. That calculation was straightforward, as it’s just math.

Predicting the political dynamics is much more difficult.

Several factors are at play:

1. Parents whose children are moving from Chantilly to Westfield are going to fight back. My understanding is that Chantilly parents do like Chantilly High School.

2. McDaniel wants relief for Oakton, and many Crossfield parents would be indifferent or prefer KAA over Oakton. However, I expect strong opposition from vocal Oakton parents who chose this area specifically for Oakton. They want no alternative. Scenario D does carve out part of the Oakton area.

3. Many on this board ruled out Fox Mill, though I argued they have a fighting chance. Losing Fox Mill wouldn’t significantly impact South Lakes, as people assumed, and it would provide some relief. (it's not over capacity but that's not the point.) Meren has not yet expressed her opinion on the boundary changes. Fox Mill parents are likely more open to KAA than Oakton parents. If that's not the case, Reid didn't even have to prepare Scenario B.

4. It’s interesting that Reid mentioned considering an option for 7th and 8th graders. This could alleviate some Oakton parents’ concerns.

I’m revisiting my old October post because it may turn out to be spot on.

Nobody wants to move to Westfield, and the Crossfield moms mounted fierce opposition to the boundary changes as I expected.

FCPS’s response?

Option E, which will practically empty out Westfield.

When I first predicted Westfield would lose 1,000 kids to the new western high school, not many believed me.

The latest FCPS option would exactly do that, and they’re not even planning to backfill the seats.

Now, I don’t think the Option E is the answer. This one will also face a backlash.
