I'm in a whole neighborhood of 50 year old ramblers (real steel muntins, single pane glass and not a two story foyer in sight) that just might delight you. Welcome to Wheaton!

Vinyl awnings above windows.

OP, I'm with you. But yes, it does cut down on the number of homes you can choose from, which is okay.

Hardie Plank? So, what would you suggest as for replacement the only option you leave is brick or stone and I wouldn't want that for an entire house. Love our hardie. And, we have one vinyl window and LOVE that too. Far better for the bathroom.

You must hate my home

It's one thing to have opinions about what you like and it's quite another to let it eliminate a good house. If you're on this list, you're probably looking at houses that cost $500k or more. Stuck on shutters and pavers seem like really cheap things to fix. If you fall in love with a house you might be willing to pay $10k or more to fix these problems.

For me, I don't like wall to wall carpet, granite counter tops, dark kitchen cabinets and upstairs laundry rooms.

Love this one! When can I move in?

I had to look up muntins and hardiplank, but I agree with you, to an extent OP.

From the Hardiplank website:
HardiePlank® lap siding is the most popular brand of siding in America and can be found on over 4 million homes

While I agree that some of these look cheesy, some of these have become extremely popular because they are cheaper and more durable than the traditional version. Example: vinyl windows. not everyone has the dough to pay for replacement wood windows all over their homes.

I have a brick house built in 1961, and I love it, but a builder would be a fool today to build a house or a number of houses with brick and expect to make a profit. Also, most people in this area have "fake" shutters that don't actually function as they did in the 1700s when they actually were meant to close.

I'm going to tell you what I tell my dad when he is the grammar police about the nightly news or something from pop culture: get over it. find another thing to get angry about, lest you be angry all the freakin time.
