Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
I am looking into taking my daughter to an in-home daycare in the Rockville area. This is a SAHM who will be watching my child along with her two children at her home. What are the per hour rates that I should expect to pay for this situation? Thanks!
I pay $40/day (food included). He stays there about 10 hours.

I pay $250/week for a 9 1/2 hour day. However, if I hadn't found my current place, I would have gone with someone who was charging $425/week.
Finding a fair price involves a number of factors. I'm in NW DC but also looked at some daycares near my office in Rockville; it seemed as though the prices there were about 10% higher than DC prices. (That surprised me a lot.) I'd pay significantly less if the care provider didn't have the proper state/local license to take care of children. (My current place is fully licensed.) And if your child is an infant (or classified as an infant--I believe that in DC a child is an infant until s/he turns 2), I think a provider is justified in charging more. |
We pay $265/week in Alexandria for a 1 year old. It does not include food, which is kind of a pain. The provider keeps 12 kids (various ages) and has 2 assistants. The other one we considered was $280/week. She had a very large and impressive set up, although still did not provide food. She is licensed.
We pay $225/wk in Bethesda for an 8hr day. Right now it's just my baby full time, my 3 yr/old one day/wk and a 2 yr/old 2 mornings a week.

Full-time care for my child's in-home DC is $200/wk regardless of age. Her hours at 7am-5pm. My son is there for about 6 hours a day, but even if he were there 10 hours, it would be the same price. She is fully licenced, and has 12 kids (all toddlers) and 2 assistants and takes 2 weeks paid vacations per year. She provides food and is fully licensed and insured. The set up is great with indoor and outdoor play areas.
I think she should charge more, she has a waiting list now of 5 families. I think she could easily get $250/child because she is very good at what she does and it turning away calls on a daily basis. |
$200/week in North Arlington. The owner has 3 women working with her and there are currently about 10 kids, from infants to 5 years old. It's been great.
$250 per week - hours 7:30 - 6:00 pm.......
$420 for two children under 4 in Rockville - 9 kids in total. She's awesome!
I pay ALLOT more than any of the previous posters. Where did you guys find these providers?
11:59 poster here. I'm in Centreville, VA and found her through the Fairfax County licensed daycare provider website.
12:31 here. I found mine through a posting right here on DC Urban Moms. She's located in Petworth, DC and I believe she has space for one more over-two child--let me know if you're interested, and I'll ask whether she has an opening. (She just got her license and is ramping up, which is why I'm confused as to whether she's accepting new kids.)
We pay $200/wk for 1 (2.5yo) and will pay $400 for 2 soon (infant) in Alexandria. There are 2 providers with 9 kids and they are licensed. Hours are from 8-6, but they ask you only have your child there for 9 hrs out of their 10 hr day. They also provide breakfast, lunch, and a snack.
We pay $320/week in N. Arlington. She is open from 7-6 and it's okay if you're a little late for pick-up (no extra charge). There are 2 women and 5 kids. She provides food and milk for toddlers (over age 1).
$250/week in Silver Spring (open from 8am to 6pm)
