ECNL moving to school year not calendar

First it started out that after ECNL leadership brought up SY in a podcast that the change would be coming in August. Then it was a 100% lock that the decision would happen in October. Then the 100% lock SY decision moved November.

Now the November meeting that was a 100% lock on SY decision changed to "the topic will be discussed" and a decision won't happen until next summer.

Anyone else get the feeling that ECNL SY proponents are just making things up to start rumors?

Sure seems that way to me.

If you listen to people online you are a fool. Even listening to myself would indeed be foolish. But they never said on any of the podcasts this would be decided in August. All we heard was there was “momentum” towards a shift to school year. Until the podcast last month we never got anything officially out in the open. Which they said it would be settled by late October or early November I believe?

We are at a ECNL showcase in SD and a team manager at one of the large girls clubs said their director/coach said we will know sometime before thanksgiving and nothing was decided officially at this point. So no one knows for sure not even the big ECNL clubs.

There is a meeting in November where this may come up. I do not see a decision until late Spring or summer next year though.

The push is to get this settled next month so that way clubs can start the madness to get things planned. But that does not mean it will be decided next month.

He already plays a year up in ECNL as a kid that is born in Aug 2013. Playing on a 2012 ECNL team now. He would be playing 2 ages up if it changes and if he wants to keep playing on this team and the 2012 team would have even older kids. Decisions to make

There is little hope of both a quick decision and a quick change. It's not ECNL's decision in the first instance. The decision by the governing bodies by most accounts is well out there. There is/was a survey that the results are not in and have not been analyzed. There is also a listening excersize that is going on now with the clubs and others. All of those results will not be together until next year at some point. If there is a decision to make the change then they will need at least six months to prepare for the change. If there is no decision to change, ECNL might then move ahead. They could go faster. But the earliest I see this is effective Jan 1 2026 for the seasons that start in 2026.

This would make sense. I don’t think they could/should decide anything so quickly. The surveys were collected as of Aug 15. I know that because I filled one out. Not sure how many were filled out? So could take ample time to analyze the info.

Fall 26 would indeed make sense but if that’s decided for the masses I could see ECNL jumping a year ahead if that’s the direction we are all going anyways.

The SY and BY folk both seem a reasonable and well meaningful bunch.

But the antiSY folk are the most poke your eyes out pretentious my kid is the best cult that exists in soccer parentdom.
It's how trolls roll.

If I told you the sky was green and horses pooped rainbows would you jump online and tell everyone about how the sky was green and horses pooped rainbows?

At some point you need to step back and realize that people are playing you.

Trust, but verify.

Sure thing...

The following is an exchange between 2 parents that have no clue if what they're saying is true or not "We are at a ECNL showcase in SD and a team manager at one of the large girls clubs said their director/coach said we will know sometime before thanksgiving and nothing was decided officially at this point. So no one knows for sure not even the big ECNL clubs."

So a parent team manager from another team told you that a coach or director from their team thinks that nothing has been decided but we"ll know more before thanksgiving.

1. This is second hand info
2. They're saying that nothing has been decided
3. We'll know more before thanksgiving

How is this any different than saying we'll know more when the next US Club Soccer meeting occurs?

How would you know if the exchange was made up? That doesn't seem like you would know if the conversation did or didn't happen.

I think is was made up because it most likely was.

Either way it doesn't matter because the US Cub Soccer Q4 meeting is rumored to happen in Nov and the fictional tale said that a decision won't happen until November.

Jesus, now they've got me saying it.

US Club Soccer likely does have a quarterly meeting happening in Nov.

It's also likely that because ECNL leadership discussed SY in a Jully podcast that SY will be a topic of discussion.

It's very unlikely that the SY discussion will create any immediate actions.

It's also very unlikely that US Soccer would support a change from BY to SY considering that they're the group that pushed changing from SY to BY in 2018.

Before saying all that you should have said "I'm at an event in Socal and a team manager told you that a coach/doc told them that...."

This way the idiots would believe it as true.

The fact you are putting scenarios such as those with people posting anything about a change to school year is kind of crazy. ECNL president addressed that the rumors of the discussion are true. Does that mean it’s happening idk? Maybe? But at this point it being a possibility is definitely a real thing.

If you go on the co cal forum they have a thread where the person who started said he heard from league operators it is going to happen. And that it will be decided in November by us soccer. That post was made probably a good 3 weeks before the ECNL president said the exact same thing on the podcast? So did that guy just make all that up and then just happen the ECNL president made up the same exact statement?

I’m not saying this is happening but there’s definitely a chance it will.

Just to clarify a team manager did tell me that. Does that make it true? Nope! Just saying it’s a big topic of discussion down here in so cal.
