| I have a 3 lb portion of beef brisket and need ideas of what to do with it. |
|
Make barbeque? The old family recipe is to mix: half a chopped onion, a clove of garlic, a cup of ketchup, a few tablespoons of sugar, and a squirt of mustard. You can throw anything else in you like. I put it in one of those oven bags, squoosh it all around, and cook it at a low temp for hours, til it falls apart. Then serve as sandwiches.
Beef stew is the other thing I do with brisket. |

It has to be braised for a really long time (maybe 2.5 - 3 hours), and will become tender and delicious, and you'll have delicious leftovers too (this always seems even better on day 2; also slices more easily into perfect thin slices). I always use Mark Bittman's recipe in his "How to Cook Everything."

Bring the beef, garlic, bay leaves, onions, salt, and 6 cups water to a boil in a 6-qt. dutch oven. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer until the brisket is tender, about 3 hours. 2. Remove pot from heat and let brisket cool, uncovered. Transfer brisket to a cutting board; shred with your fingers. Roughly chop meat; transfer to a bowl. Mix in the cheese, lime juice, cilantro, chipotles, scallions, and tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper. Serve the salpicón wrapped in tortillas and topped with paprika and avocado slices. |
| Somewhere between 8 and 9am place you brisket on a square of tinfoil. Sprinkle with onion soup mix and 1/4 cup of wine, wrap up tightly and place on a baking sheet in a 200F oven. Take it out an hour before you want to eat. |
| When are you cooking it? |
| i cook it the same as 13:47 but use ketchup in lieu of the wine (so mix onion soup mix and ketchup). |
| Any difference/preference btn 200 degree oven and crockpot on low for 8 hours? |
