Matching questions: what can i wear with navy or blue?

Anonymous
I always have trouble with blue. It seems so boring to only wear blue with blue, or blue with cream, but im not sure what else matches.

What shoes can i wear with navy slacks? Are brown okay? Is black ever ok? Or am i only stuck with navy shoes?

With a blue top and cream or khakhi bottom, can i carry a brown or black purse?

Any other tips on dressing with navy..say navy pants or a navy suit.

Shoes with a navy suit... I start with what is OK for menswear, as the rules tend to be rigid and straightforward, at least traditionally so. American men should always wear black shoes with a navy suit, yet I think Italian style is to wear brown.

As for women, IMHO, you cannot go wrong with black shoes. But you can also wear grey (my fave), burgundy, yellow, fuchsia (if you are bold). Nude-for-you shoes are great in the warmer months, especially with a skirt or dress.

Navy is a neutral and can be paired with just about any color. If you are nervous, start with patterns that have a blue in them.

I always combine navy and gray. With black boots.

So its okay to wear black shoes (flats or heels) against a navy pant? Are brown boots okay too for the same?

I hate the navy on navy look, it feels so catholic school-ish to me. I do do the nudes in summer.

I love some of the bright colors PP mentioned.

I would not do black shoes with navy pants. I would wear either nude or brown or burgundy. I like navy and grey. Or navy with browns.

I bought a fantastic pair of burgandy metallic heals with patent leather trim and design on the top. The look amazing with my navy slacks and a wine color satin blouse.

I have been wearing black patent heels with my navy suits. Looks fine to me.

black and navy can be really sharp, as long as they are crisp and not worn.
black and red is my favorite combo. black and gray is cute too.

you can think of navy as a neutral, so you can work in color around it, but don't combine with too many other neutrals (i.e. not navy, black, tan and gray together).

I dont ever mix navy with black. I think it looks very old. Now if its a cobalt blue or something bright I think that is ok with black.

For navy I do gray, any brown or tan, a burnt orange color, etc.

But black and navy reminds me of a woman stuck in the 90's with no style.

Navy can pair with neutrals (beige, grey, cream, black, white) and with darker shades of colors (maroon, evergreen, plum).
Navy should not be paired with the brighter shades of colors.

Brighter shades of blue should be paired with neutrals or brighter shades of other colors.

My mother was French and very chic; she wore navy with black all the time and looked fabulous. Navy with grey or camel as well.

I think if navy blue is paired with some darker color, you could wear shoes like doll shoes which is color red.

If you want to throw in a trendy color, navy and mint look nice together. Maybe a mint shell or scarf. Red, orange, and peach or a darker pink also look nice with navy.

NAvy is my favorite color to match with.

Tops in pale pink, red, kelly green, coral...every vivid color goes with navy!!

I have worn navy tops with grey pants and black sling-blacks. I tend to wear neutral beige heels or wedges when I wear a navy dress in the fall, spring, summer...often with a matching beige/tan bag.

gray goes very well with navy. I like to have navy neutrals in the main things like the jacket or the pants, and then a hot pink or yellow or bright green top or jewelry or print.

I try not to mix brown or black with navy.
