I'm curious if any parents could share their experiences with the Franklin (DC) waitlist. Does it move quickly? Should you call to re-express interest? Any other thoughts/tips? Haven't heard from the school yet, but we didn't get our application in early and I understand the open slots were filled fairly early so many of us will be waitlisted.
Thanks! |
| PP when did you send in your application? I spoke with Randy a few weeks ago, and she said that if you got in your application before December, you would probably be in. Of course, I'm not taking that to the bank but FYI. She also said we'd hear in the next week/end of the month. |
| We were notified in June that our DC made it off the waitlist. I only followed up once in February I believe. |

OP here - we got our application in at the beginning of November. Our DD is applying to the 2 year old classroom and I was under the impression (only from other DCUM posts) that the available slots for those classes had already been filled by August or something ridiculously early!
Thanks for the information - this is very helpful. |

Hi, 10:38 here. If you want to call the school and see what they say, that would be great to share. We also got our application in early November, so I was heartened by Randy's comments, but who knows. She also said we'd hear this week or so, but when I called recently they said maybe early next month.
Are you looking at any other preschools? Not too many that offer full-time care for 2s.... |
| OP again. We just had our second baby so we've been a bit lax on the preschool search, as we will have a nanny for the little one and can keep DD home for another year if necessary. We're also looking at Communikids and a few of the schools on CC Circle. Would be nice to hear from Franklin sooner rather than later, though, as it is nice to get ducks in a row. I thought I remembered hearing that Franklin works to balance genders in classes, which I why i'm so surprised to hear that an applicant who got an application in before December should be fine. Maybe Randy meant that applicants who get apps in before december will get in off the waitlist eventually? |
| 12:44 here. We got our application in early December. |
| If you get an offer, how much time do you have to decide whether to accept? Thanks. |
| Anyone call and just ask some of these questions? I already called in the last few weeks so don't want to again! |
| 12:44 here. We were given a week or two to decide I believe. |
| I know people who applied for an open slot or two for their 2 year old for January entry and got in. They applied one day and were accepted very quickly with a week to decide. I think that follow up and calling can help. |
| 12:26 here. I just called and was told that they'll start contacting people at the end of the month for the 2s program, so we should hear back by February. |

Our DS did get a spot but we decided to send him to Family Academy of Bethesda instead. They have a great program- Montessori Toddler and at 3 years would attend the Montessori Pr-Primary class as they call it.
We are V. happy with the decision we made as he is already schooling. We made lots of references beforehand. Good Luck with Frankline! |
| Thanks 10:20 for the update. I just feel sort of panicky because there just aren't many options for full-day preschool for 2s, particularly as recommended as Franklin. I went to the OH for School for Friends and was not that impressed. The Director's vibe turned me off. |

We are in the same boat. We applied for the 2 year old room in late November. I called and was told that the decisions had not yet been made and that we should expect a phone call and a card in the mail by the end of this month if we were accepted.
We were a bit turned off at the OH for School for Friends as well. Curious to hear what others thought about this. Also, we have some concerns about the large size of the 2-year old room at Franklin. Any other parents have thoughts or experiences they would like to share? |
