Has anyone ever stayed at this resort? Opinions?

I heard rave reviews from friends who traveled with kids 2 years ago. But it has some recent harsh review on tripadvisor. We went to the Ritz in PR and it was very nice, but no waterpark or anything. I'm interested in hearing from others, too.

Went 14 years ago - fabulous - but it's been a long time!

I was there in 2010 and loved it! The pools and hot tubs (awesome views) are always open. The boat to the beach island is really fun. The breakfast buffet rocks. It's kid friendly but we have no kids and had a romantic time. San Juan is not my favorite--this was much better.

I went a long time ago before they built the waterpark. It was awesome. We had a fantastic time. I would go again in a heartbeat.

In PR now. Not really safe. Would not bring kids

Do you mind elaborating?

We went last christmas. Not sure why the PP did not feel it was safe. We felt fine and we have been to PR numerous times. We even walked to a local restaurant which was fun.

large resort
good options for swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving
water park is ok for one afternoon diversion. we got a deal for free admissions. Nice gym. Close to the Rain forest.

It is a far walk if you stay by the harbor where the boats go to for the beach and you need to go to breakfast or work out. We liked it because it was a larger room, we wanted to be closer to the boat for the beach and we liked the casual restaurant there to eat lunch. Food is expensive and I wish they had more choices.

We went on a off week and there were not a ton of kids for my kids to play with. We did have fun but than moved to San juan for the second half off the week as we like the many restaurants closer to the city. The kids also like going to Old San Juan and El Morro (the fort)

It is a pretty far drive to go back and forth to San Juan so if you want to enjoy the city, split your time up.

Take a look at Rio Mar as an alternative. I've stayed here as well as at El Conquistador and prefer Rio Mar...it's more family oriented.

I read that 1) the spa is great 2) it's close to el yunque rainforest and 3) Fajardo is a good place to take boat trips to great snorkeling

We were in PR in December. Stayed in San Juan tho (el convento!) It was fabulous and we felt 100% safe.

You can also do the trip to see the bioluminescent bay. easy to do from rio mar or el comquistaador.

We are also looking to go next month and were deciding between Ritz San Juan and El Conquistador. We were shocked that we can't seem to find any direct flights from IAD or even Baltimore. Any suggestions?

I think United goes nonstop from Dulles and Airtran goes nonstop from BWI

United has one direct flight a day from dulles at 8:12 am.

The Ritz in San Juan is very nice but very close to the airport so you will get plane noise. The beach is not so great.

The Intercontinental has much better beachfront. We also like the Marriott in Condado.
